Terror Chatter Increasing On The Internet

Potential terrorists are swapping tips and ways to beat security measures via the Internet and the spike in terror is “chatter” is cause for concern, reports Armen Keteyian in this CBS News report.

U.S. Intel Officials Seeing Spike in al Qaeda-Linked Internet Chatter Focused on Ways to Thwart Airport Security

CBS News has learned that U.S. Intelligence officials are seeing a marked increase in terror-related Internet chatter with a frightening focus: Jihadists bent on finding gaps in airport security – all linked to al Qaeda in Yemen, reports CBS News chief investigative correspondent Armen Keteyian.

On one radical website, a writer invites fellow members to post information on how to bypass airport screening.

Another member asks about explosive detection devices, writing: “We have that system in place in Algiers…does anyone know if it’s capable of detecting [the flammable gas] butane?”

On another Jihadist site, a visitor questions security involving 3D scanners at British airports asking: “Can I refuse [to pass through] for religious reasons?”

Before long comes this answer: “…advise those who wish to avoid the Heathrow scanners to take the train to Paris… and then board a plane from there.”

Perhaps most disturbing — the recent discovery of a confidential TSA document on a Yemeni Web site discussing the rules for searching passengers.

Technology is a good thing but until we profile we will continue to waste money and miss the Bad guys. We have got to become Politacally incorrect and start doing what needs to be done. If your a Male between the age of 14 to 55 of middle eastern, Aribic decent and a Muslim you got through one line, if you meet todays suspected profile then you also go in that line and the rest go through the expidied line. I travel a lot and my mother-in-law 85 and my wife of 58 Knees replacements and they get searched everytime. In the mean time dark skin male of about 30, no luggage or carry-ons clean shaven slightly sweating and will not make eye contact with anyoe breezes right through. Just his lack of luggage and the heavy coat should have been enough to drag him off to a room to be questioned. Boy we missed a great sources of information that day.

It is time to stop PC behavor and start protecting the American people.

They will keep on trying to bypass all the things what they are checking at the airports.
Who knows what they will come up with next.
Something inside their body what is not detectale by the scanners???
    Crazy, scary world.

One reported website (blatantly) asked members to post information how to bypass airport security while another site asked if airport explosive detection devices were capable of detecting [flammable gas] butane. Prudently one must consider if this big increase in “Jihadists chatter” is meant to distract U.S. Security from discovering terrorists boarding other vehicles e.g. ocean freighters or cruse ships to cause their destruction and or enter the U.S. directly or via the Canadian or Mexico border. The Jihadists web postings were so blatant one has to consider if they were intended to distract U.S. Security from discovering another method of terrorist attack already in progress in the U.S.

Riley don’t you understand that profiling is of no use whatsoever? It is also a violation of the constitution. Again – it is totally ineffective. You want to target an entire population because of a few.

Hey remember during WWII – when this same idea took place, and hundreds of thousands of Japanese Americans were thrown into internment camps, lives destroyed? All because of paranoia.

So what if at some point people want to profile your type? How would you feel about that? You are letting paranoia get the best of you.

Anyone who is serious enough to want to do harm – is not going to be on some open website, that’s ridiculous. This entire argument is ridiculous. If you want to be ruled by paranoia, go ahead. But think about the cost, the constitution that this country was founded on.

How may americans have been killed by terrorist attacks since 911? How many innocent Iraqis? How many Afghanis? Perhaps it’s better to examine the reason that the US is the most hated nation on earth at this point in history.

Every port of entry into the UK and the EU should have 3D scanners with explosive detectors. Anyone refusing to pass through on any grounds should be strip searched, I will provide the rubber gloves free of charge :)

What most people fail to understand is the Customs have more power than the customs department, they do not need your permission to conduct such searches!

Several important points have been made in these postings. First and foremost, we as the American public CAN NOT put our head in the sand and expect that people are doing their job. Second, profiling works in certain circumstances, not with terrorism. Recently, a group of “white, anglo-saxon” males were caught in Yemen plotting acts of terrorism against the United States. They were originally from the mid-western United States. This tells me that terrorism not only affects, but takes the average citizen and turns them against the very freedom they so desire. Screening MUST be done across the entire spectrum of society world wide. Third and lastly, Americans tend to have the idea “nothing ever happens here” attitude. This does not negate the effect they can have in their communities against the threat of terrorism. We, as Americans, must do our part to protect not only national security, but also our home security.

Boy my boy,got a reaction on this one. Some ok, some funny, some need to use spell check. You all know the deal now, go with your gut, your instincts when you travel. If you feel someone is trying to slip by,tell the authorities, raise hell if need be!!! If unwarranted say, I thought he,she looked like the person on America’s Most Wanted TV show, so sorry..
