Obama To Limit Use Nuclear Arms, Even In Self Defense

In what is no doubt going to become a very controversial decision, The New York Times is reporting that President Obama said Monday that he will revamp American nuclear strategy to substantially narrow the conditions under which the United States would use nuclear weapons, even in self defense.

The report also states the president is carving out an exception for “outliers like Iran and North Korea” that have violated or renounced the main treaty to halt nuclear proliferation.

White House officials said that the new strategy will leave open the option of reconsidering the use of nuclear retaliation against a biological attack, if the development of such weapons reaches a level that makes United States vulnerable to a devastating strike.

Mr. Obama’s new strategy is bound to be controversial, both among conservatives who have warned against diluting America’s most potent deterrent, and among liberals who were hoping for a blanket statement that America would never be the first to use nuclear weapons.

Obama is looking to have a law he can wash his hands behind; instead of protecting Israel, whom he distains.

We should never let our potential enemies know under what circumstances we would or would not use nuclear weapons.
To me, if our country is attacked by non nuclear nations with biological weapons of mass destruction, then we have the obligation to retaliate with our nuclear arsenal.

  3. Ross Wolf says:

Obama’s logic when extrapolated appears deeply flawed:
Obama’s position not to retaliate with nuclear weapons against countries that attack the U.S. with biological or chemical weapons—could encourage banana republics like Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela to development those lethal weapons. Because of the size of nuclear bombs and their large accompanying delivery systems (missiles) they are discoverable by U.S. Intelligence in other countries. That would not be the case for example, if Eastern nations shifted from wanting a few nuclear bombs to developing biological weapons that could kill far more U.S. Citizens. Currently the U.S. can track and shoot down a limited number of nuclear missiles if launched e.g., by Iran. But biological weapons too easily can be delivered via commercial air vehicles or ships that might be detonated anywhere causing a devastating number of deaths dependent on where the wind blows and shelf life of the deployed biological product. It is ridiculously apparent Obama’s position not to retaliate with nuclear weapons against countries that attack the U.S. with chemical or biological weapons—will result globally to exasperate the threat of (biological weapons); Obama’s position will encourage small countries to develop those weapons. The U.S. might have considerable difficulty locating and aborting biological weapons in transit to America.

Perhaps just as worrisome, Obama’s position not to retaliate with nuclear weapons against countries that attack the U.S. with biological or chemical weapons is foreseeable to be perceived by America’s enemies as weakness. Historically when a country’s leader has been perceived as weak, its enemies have attacked.

Until Obama is through, we will be a third world country. There is no prize for second place in a nuclear attack and he is so adamant in making sure we pay for all the wrongs he feels America has committed. If you look at any county under Muslim control and sharia law, tell me if you would like to live there. I doubt that anyone in their right mind would say yes. Obama is a disgrace to our nation, and to the men and women who have served, shed blood, and have died for the America I grew up in. This isn’t the America I served for many years, both in the Air Force and as a police officer and I see it getting worse and worse every day. The military despises Obama and realize he isn’t fit to stand next to them. We have the most arrogant president this nation has ever had and on a daily basis he is doing more to subvert this great country. God Bless America and all the men and women who proudly serve so that we may remain free.

People really should read the details before they jump to conclusions.
And the media has even a bigger responsibility to do this than the individual.
Shame on you Fox News !!!

Given the catastrophic potential of biological weapons and the rapid
pace of bio-technology development, the United States reserves the right to make any adjustment in the assurance that may be warranted by the evolution and proliferation of the biological weapons threat and U.S. capacities to counter that threat.
