The UK’s Telegraph is reporting six people are feared to have been killed in a suicide attack by suspected Islamist militants on the parliament buildings in the Chechen capital Grozny. Initial reports said a small group of three or four gunmen burst into government buildings, opening fire with automatic weapons.
Unnamed law enforcement sources told Russian news agencies that two of the militants had blown themselves up, killing four security guards.
Other sources said the militants had taken an unspecified number of hostages in one of the parliament buildings but were now completely surrounded by Special Forces.
“The parliament building has been seized and hostages taken,” a local interior ministry official told news agencies.
