‘Bin Laden’ letter hoaxer charged with threatening targets across the country

Federal law enforcement officials have charged a Chicago area man with mailing letters to 16 states that threatened the use of nuclear bombs in schools, churches, hospitals and other facilities.

The FBI said on Jan. 6 that Timothy O’Donnell had been charged with nine counts of falsely threatening use of explosives in a federal grand jury indictment handed down on Jan. 5. He potentially faces almost 100 years in prison and a fine of over $2 million, if convicted, according to the FBI.
