British couple who own Timbuktu hostel forced to flee Mali after Al-Qaeda fighters overthrow country’s government
A British couple were forced to make a dramatic escape from the troubled African city of Timbuktu after Al-Qaeda put a price on their heads.
Neil Whitehead and Diane English left all their possessions behind and fled across 850-miles of desert as the fabled city in the West African state of Mali fell to Al-Qaeda backed fighters last weekend.
