A Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer was fatally shot Thursday night near a building on the university’s campus.
The MIT police officer was responding to a report of a disturbance in the area when he was found with “multiple gunshot wounds,” the Middlesex County District Attorney Attorney’s office said in a press release on their website.
The officer, who was not immediately identified, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead from his wounds.

This is preliminary – Apparently two robbery suspects were confronted by campus police. A campus officer was shot and killed, and a car carjacked. There are reports that the suspects were heavily armed, possibly with explosives. There is an extensive search underway.

4:10 am EST – Suspect #2 reportedly surrounded in Watertown building. SWAT teams moving into position.
Search continues – Law enforcement officials have identified the suspect still on the loose as Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge, Mass. His brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was identified as the man killed during an encounter with police after an armed carjacking of a Mercedes SUV in Cambridge. Tsarnaev was believed to be in his mid-20s.
