As many as 14 people were injured and 1 killed this afternoon by a motorist who drove around San Francisco running them down before he was arrested, authorities said.
Seven of those injured were in critical condition, police and firefighters said.
Authorities have identified the man who was arrested as Omeed Aziz Popal, who has addresses in Ceres (Stanislaus County) and Fremont.
Four callers to the Hugh Hewitt Radio Show have confirmed that without doubt this is a Jewish neighborhood, and that one of the victims was run over in front of the Jewish Community Center in the area.
UPDATE: Police converged on the suspected hit and run driver’s home in Fremont to search for more evidence that might lead to a motive in the case. KRON 4’s Will Tran says officers posted crime scene tape outside the home while waiting for the arrival of a search warrant. Three people living in the residence were taken down to Fremont police headquarters for questioning.
