A small pipe bomb exploded in a garbage can at the Metra train station in this western suburb during the morning commute Friday, causing minimal damage and no injuries, police said.
A suspect was detained by Metra police at Chicago’s Union Station after taking a train from Hinsdale following the incident, which occurred shortly before 7 a.m., officials said.
Police said they had no reason to believe the incident was a terrorist act. The motive was not immediately known but Hinsdale police officers were questioning the suspect, Deputy Chief Mark Mandarino said.
