State-run radio says a commercial airliner carrying 107 passengers from Tirana to Istanbul has been hijacked in Greek airspace.
According to reports, the pilot sent a coded hijack message from the plane as it flew through Greek airspace. A Greek Defence Ministry official said: “The plane sent the signal twice while in Greek air space.

“Four Greek fighter jets took off and accompanied the plane as it left Greek air space towards the Italian city of Brindisi.” According to reports, the plane has now landed in the Italian city.

Update: A hijacking episode that began over Greek airspace has ended in Italy with all 113 people aboard released and an unarmed Turkish hijacker in the custody of Italian aviation authorities, Italian officials said.
