Before Osama bin Laden, there was Imad. The Lebanese terrorist from Hizbullah was considered the most dangerous in the world. Now the White House worries that he’s back, after years of lying low.
U.S. intel and counterterrorism officials, anonymous when discussing sensitive material, said Mughniyeh is prominent in recent reporting from the field about Hizbullah activity.
Bruce Riedel, a veteran Mideast expert recently retired from the CIA, told a Newsweek reporter, there is “no question he is heavily involved in [formulating] terrorist contingency plans in case of a U.S.-Iran confrontation.”

Boston - Cartoon Marketing Plan Goes Awry
January 31, 2007
The suspicious devices which forced bomb units to scramble across Boston today were actually magnetic lights that are part of a marketing campaign for a television cartoon.
The reports forced the temporary shutdowns of Interstate 93 out of the city, a key inbound roadway, a bridge between Boston and Cambridge, and a portion of the Charles River but were quickly determined not to be explosive.
“It’s a hoax — and it’s not funny,” Gov. Deval Patrick said.
All of the devices are magnetic lights which resemble a character on the show “Aqua Teen Hunger Force”, on Turner Broadcasting’s Cartoon Network.
WBZ has obtained a statement from Turner Broadcasting:
“The “packages” in question are magnetic lights that pose no danger. They are part of an outdoor marketing campaign in 10 cities in support of Adult Swim’s animated television show Aqua Teen Hunger Force. They have been in place for two to three weeks in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Seattle, Portland, Austin, San Francisco and Philadelphia. Parent company Turner Broadcasting is in contact with local and federal enforcement on the exact locations of the billboards. We regret that they mistakenly thought to pose any danger.”

British Kidnap Beheading Terror Plot Foiled
January 31, 2007
Muslim terrorists were to kidnap a British soldier on UK streets and force him to plead with Tony Blair for his life in return for a pull-out of troops from Iraq.
The soldier would have been filmed begging the PM to withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan in a sick propaganda stunt.
Army sources said the target was a British Muslim soldier in his 20s.
He would eventually be beheaded on film in a sick mirror of the torture and savage killing of British hostage Ken Bigley if Mr Blair refused.
Senior security sources say the plot would have put the most unbearable blackmail pressure on the Premier to act.
It would also have sent shockwaves through the entire British Armed Forces - putting the fear of God into every man and woman in uniform on or off duty.
The fact that the arrests were made in Birmingham could suggest that soldiers recovering from wounds in military hospitals there might have been targeted.

Threat Level Raised For Super Bowl
January 29, 2007
The National Football League has boosted the law enforcement budget and heightened the security threat level for Super Bowl 41 because of terrorism fears.
The Super Bowl has been raised to a level one national security event, putting it on par in terms of manpower and resources with the US President’s State of the Union speech and the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.
“We consider the Super Bowl so high profile that we see it as attractive to terrorists,” said Milt Ahlerich, NFL vice-president of security.
The last Super Bowl to be given a level one security designation was the 2002 New Orleans Super Bowl held three months after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks upon New York and Washington

Suspicious Incident At Barrett Firearms Plant
January 26, 2007
Rutherford County law enforcement agencies were concerned about homeland security safety after an incident at Barrett Firearms Mfg. Inc.
Around 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, a man of Middle Eastern descent approached an employee outside Barrett Manufacturing, asked about what was made there, and if he could see inside.
The employee responded with information about tours planned in advance.
The man wanted to know if he could buy metal from the company with the $15,000 to $20,000 in cash he had on him at the time.
The man had asked questions about the plant and began demanding access, sheriff’s spokesman Dan Goodwin said in a news release issued Friday.
The man was asked to leave after he became upset when the employee began to examine his pickup truck.
The white truck was described as having dual rear tires and towing a white utility trailer. Two other men were in the truck, and there was luggage in the bed of the vehicle.
“Certainly since 9/11 a lot of law enforcement agencies have taken these kinds of things more seriously. It’s hard to say whether there is anything to this or not, but if it is something suspicious we definitely want to know about it,” TBI spokesperson Jennifer Johnson said.
Barrett Firearms makes 50 caliber rifles for the military.
If you have any information about these men please call the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department at 898-7770.

Homemade Bombs And Threatening Notes Found
January 25, 2007
Notes threatening that Kissimmee, Fla., would be bombed by al-Qaeda recently found scattered through the city led to the discovery of homemade bombs inside a 20-year-old’s home, police told Local 6 News.
“The exact message on one of the notes, we are told, (is) ‘The city of Kissimmee is going to be bombed by al Qaeda, God willing,’” Local 6’s Jamie Guriola said.
Some of the notes were found on vehicles parked at the Moose Lodge located on 1019 North Main Street and a vehicle parked at the First Christian Church located at 415 North Main Street.
“Each note referenced al Qaeda,” the police report said.
During an investigation, investigators found explosives at the home of Juan Rafael Diaz, along with other notes threatening to detonate the devices, Local 6 reported.
On Jan. 23, detectives learned that a similar note was taped to the front door of the First Christian Church.
Local6.com has learned that Diaz was arrested in Dec. 2006 for placing a written note threatening to explode a bomb at SaveRite located at 1532 West Vine Street. He was out on bond for the December arrest.
Diaz has been charged with threatening to discharge a destructive device and making, possessing and using a destructive device.
He is being held at the Osceola County Jail.

al-Zawahiri Warning
January 25, 2007
DUBAI, Jan 25
Al Qaeda second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahiri has warned Americans of a reprisal “far worse than anything they have seen”, if Washington did not change its policies towards Muslim states, Reuters informs.
“You are facing the Islamic rage … what awaits you, should you press on, is far worse than anything you have seen,” Zawahiri said in an Internet video.
Leaders of the militant group which carried out the September 11 aircraft attacks against US cities often argue that its terrorism is justified as a way to change pro-Israel US policies and to punish Washington for its wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Terrorists Gain US Entry Through Fraud
January 23, 2007
Immigration fraud is yet another method used by criminals and terrorists to gain entry into the United States illegally to carry out their agendas.
The Identity and Benefits Fraud Unit, an investigative component of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, is the agency responsible for detecting, deterring, and disrupting the fraudulent schemes used by terrorist and criminal organizations. In fiscal year 2006, the IBF Unit opened about 4,000 new cases of immigration fraud and received or developed thousands of leads.
As the largest investigative arm in the Department of Homeland Security, ICE unites the functions, resources, and legal authorities of several previously fragmented border and security organizations into an integrated homeland security agency focused on investigations and enforcement.

U.S. Warns Iran to Back Down
January 23, 2007
A second U.S. aircraft carrier strike group now steaming toward the Middle East is Washington’s way of warning Iran to back down in its attempts to dominate the region, a top U.S. diplomat said here Tuesday.
Nicholas Burns, U.S. undersecretary of state for political affairs, ruled out direct negotiations with Iran and said a rapprochement between Washington and Tehran was “not possible” until Iran halts uranium enrichment.
“The Middle East isn’t a region to be dominated by Iran. The Gulf isn’t a body of water to be controlled by Iran. That’s why we’ve seen the United States station two carrier battle groups in the region,” Burns said in an address to the Dubai-based Gulf Research Center, an influential think-tank.
“Iran is going to have to understand that the United States will protect its interests if Iran seeks to confront us,” Burns continued.

Israel and the United States will soon be destroyed, Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday during a meeting with Syria’s foreign minister, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) website said in a report.
“Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad… assured that the United States and the Zionist regime of Israel will soon come to the end of their lives,” the Iranian president was quoted as saying.
“Sparking discord among Muslims, especially between the Shiites and Sunnis, is a plot hatched by the Zionists and the US for dominating regional nations and looting their resources,” Ahmadinejad added, according to the report.
