Video and images obtained by Sky News appear to show terrorist training camps are still operating in Pakistan.
The Taliban is threatening to launch a spring offensive involving thousands of fighters although local authorities insist they are doing all they can to crack down on terrorists.
Sky’s Asia correspondent Alex Crawford was escorted by the Pakistani military to the mountainous border region with Afghanistan.
This is the area which is believed to be home to some of the world’s most wanted terrorists, including Osama Bin Laden.
The Pakistani military has 20,000 troops on the border but it seems targeting Taliban extremism, and beating it, is a long way off.
Sky obtained a video, filmed just weeks ago, apparently showing Taliban fighters being trained in the very area it was taken to northern Waziristan.
It is an area strictly off limits to foreign visitors, and one so dangerous even the Pakistan military fears to tread.
“There seems no shortage of Taliban recruits,” said Crawford. “The tape shows fresh fighters being trained for the battle across the border and beyond.”
The Pakistani military message is that all is being done to combat the terrorists, but officers admit there are hundreds hiding in the mountain area, armed with rocket propelled grenades and sniper rifles.
