Police have no idea how it got there, but speculate that it could have washed down from Fort Carson or could have disposed of it by throwing it into the creek.
Or fill in the blank_________________________
A man out for a walk along Fountain Creek Friday morning came across a stunning find–a land mine. It turned out to be a Claymore Land Mine, also referred to as an anti-personnel device.
It was found on a small island between Fountain Creek Regional Park and the KOA Campground just after 8 am. The metro bomb squad and a Fort Carson unit disposed of it. “The legs had rusted off of it,” said Sgt. Jess Freeman, Fountain Police Department. “There were no caps attached to it so it wasn’t going to fire, but they took all the precautions because when you find something like that you never know how old it could be or when it’s going to go off.”
