Austin’s Hazardous Materials team now says it is 98 percent sure a mysterious powder in an envelope sent to a downtown lobbying group is not hazardous.
The call came in at approximately 2:30 p.m. Friday from Capital Plains Bank building at 919 Congress Ave.
The letter was sent to Texans for Fiscal Responsibility.
Michael Sullivan opened what police describe as a threatening letter. Black powder fell from the envelope — spilling on his hands and pants.
CBS 42’s Alexis Patterson spoke exclusively with Sullivan. He spent hours sequestered in his office along with his staff.
He says he feels fine and that the worst part about this is missing his daughter’s 9th birthday.
Haz Mat team members wearing protective gear went inside to test the powder. They won’t say what it is but the investigation is changing course — away from the potential threat posed by the powder.
Police are investigating the threat.
