Police in Maryland are investigating reports of shots fired inside Laurel Regional Hospital, about 20 miles southwest of Baltimore.
Police have blocked off an area in front of the hospital and are searching for the person responsible.
Sources say a prisoner was taken to the hospital, overpowered a guard and tried to fire at the shackles on his legs.
