Idaho Falls Police are investigating a suspicious package found in the stairwell of the Red Lion Hotel Saturday night.

An employee of the hotel discovered the small device. It is described as a package wrapped in electrical tape with a fuse coming out of it. Police say it looked as if someone had lit the fuse.

According to police, black gunpowder was leaking from the package. A member of the Idaho Falls Regional Bomb Squad responded.

“As a student, working on my Masters in Homeland Security, I
have studied that the Terrorist Communications Network, is duly
being monitored by our various agencies, and the numerous
communication devices such to contain various messages and
    orders.
In all of my studies, I have not seen anybody who monitors the
Amature Short Wave frequencies, that was used for many years
for Morse Code, and recently video. This equipment can be used
and setup very easy, with know-how, anywhere in the world, and
with 100 watt output at night, using the “skipwave” technique, you
can send covert messages more than half-way around the world.
    Is this something being observed?
