UPDATE 02/09/08 - The Two Trucks Have Been Found
Police said they have found one of two tanker trucks that were stolen from a construction company lot in northern Virginia on Friday.
Authorities said two trucks were taken between 7 p.m. on Thursday and 5 a.m. on Friday from the parking lot of S.W. Rodgers Company Inc. on Wellington Road in Gainesville.
One of the trucks was found later in Baltimore.
Authorities said the trucks were carrying thousands of gallons of diesel fuel.
Police said they do not know what motivated the crime. They are not sure if the thieves intended to sell the fuel or if the missing trucks present a national security threat.
Federal authorities have been notified, and police put out a notice to truckers telling them to watch out for the remaining tanker.
“There’s a valid concern to be anxious when tanker trucks disappear,” said Sgt. Shana Hrubes, spokeswoman for Prince William County police. “We’re working in coordination with the trucking industry, as well as Homeland Security and the FBI, the joint terrorism task force.”

Police throughout the region are searching for two stolen fuel tankers.
The tankers were stolen early Friday from S.W. Rodgers, located at 5816 Wellington Road in the Gainesville area of Prince William County.
Police say the thieves cut locks to get into a gated lot where the trucks were parked. The vehicles are used to transport fuel for heavy construction equipment.
Each tanker truck is gray with “S.W. Rodgers Company, Inc.” printed on the side. The tractors pulling the tankers are orange and white.
Police say one vehicle is a 2003 Mack CV 713 with Virginia tags TU92271. It had approximately 2,000 gallons of fuel/diesel in the tank.
The second truck is a 2006 Mack CV713 with Virginia tags TW47607. It had approximately 1,000 gallons of fuel/diesel in the tank.
Each tanker has a fuel capacity of 3,500 gallons.
The Department of Homeland Security says it is closely monitoring the situation, but the incident remains a local criminal matter.
Anyone who sees either of the trucks is asked to call the police or Prince William County Crime Solvers at 703-670-3700 or 1-866-411-TIPS.
