Russian Bomber Makes Another Flyover of USS Nimitz
March 5, 2008

A Russian strategic bomber has made another flyover of the USS Nimitz off coasts of the Korean Peninsula on Wednesday, the Pentagon said.
Its representative said the Russian plane approached The Nimitz three to five sea miles and flew over it at a 600-meter height.
Two fighter jets F-18 scrambled from the ship in response and followed the Russian warplane.
In February, two Russian strategic bombers Tu-95MS approached the strike group of the US Navy led by The Nimitz, and one of them even made two flyovers of it at a 600- meter height.
The US administration then made no demarches. It said it did not see any threat in the training flights of Russia’s long-range aviation.
The Tu-95MS is a propeller-moved plane.
The South Korean armed forces are carrying out large-scale maneuvers together with the US. The exercises involve the nuclear powered aircraft carrier Nimitz, the nuclear powered submarine Ohio, a missile cruiser and two destroyers.
