Heathrow Airport - A man wearing a backpack has been arrested after running on to an airport runway.
A man with a rucksack has run into the path of an aircraft at Heathrow airport - sparking a major security alert.
He reportedly breached the perimeter fence at 2.05pm and was immediately arrested by armed officers on the northern runway.
A controlled explosion on the bag has reportedly been carried out.
Emergency vehicles are on the scene and the runway in question is partially closed.
“The northern runway is now being partially used while police deal with the incident,” a BAA Heathrow spokesperson said.
“The southern runway is fully operational. Some delays are occurring as a result.”
