Authorities say they have detained a passenger who tried to check a bag with suspicous items at Orlando International Airport.
According to television station WFTV, sources say the man had components to make explosives in a bag that he tried to check onto an Air Jamaica flight.
The same sources say the pieces were not put together and were detected by a security x-ray screening.
The man reportedly had walked away from the baggage counter. He was tracked down and taken into custody.
The bag was scheduled to go on Jamaica Air flight 80 to Montego Bay.
Parts of terminal A were closed off as the investigation continues.
A statement by the Transportation Security Administration says the bomb squad was sent to the scene. The FBI is investigating as well.
TSA says flight operations are operating normally and both security checkpoints are open.
A “behavior identification officer” saw the man acting strangely about noon Tuesday as he approached a ticket counter, TSA officials said.
Lee Kair, the TSA’s federal security director in Orlando, Florida, would not identify the man or say what was found in his bags.
But he said the items posed no immediate danger to other travelers.
Witnesses described the man as disturbed.
“He looked rather crazy,” a passenger told CNN affiliate WKMG. “He was rocking left and right and up and down.”
