A woman arrested for trying to conceal several knives onto a flight to Denver says she tried to check her bag and was rebuffed by a ticket agent.
Lisa Chadd, 43, of Denver, was arrested May 24 by Kansas City International Airport Police while trying to board an American Airlines flight to Denver.
According to the Platte County Sheriffs Department, Chadd was accused of concealing a weapon at a security checkpoint. A representative of the Platte County District Attorneys Office said prosecutors will decide within the next month whether or not to press charges against Chadd.
Chadd told 9NEWS she had intended to use the five knives “for cooking and protection.”
Chadd says the knives, a gift from her brother, were in a bag she attempted to check with an American Airlines ticket agent. She says the agent ignored her request and took the bag directly to a security checkpoint where TSA screeners discovered the weapons.
“The ticket agent literally pushed it into security,” Chadd said. “I was yelling, That is not a carry on Thats supposed to be checked”
Chadd said she is considering legal action against the airline or airport.
“I really am just freaked about the whole thing,” Chadd said. “I dont know what to do . . . This was unjust and somebody needs to address it.”
Authorities say Chadd spent a night in the Platte County Jail and was released May 25th without charges.
“I was horrified and embarrassed,” Chadd said.
Chadd says airport security workers kept her knives.
