Authorities say an El Paso hospital is under its second security lockdown this year while it treats a patient injured in a shootout in violence-plagued Mexico.
El Paso County sheriff’s Deputy Jesus Tovar says an unidentified person was being treated Friday for gunshot wounds.
The incident took place in Casas Grandes, Mexico, about 140 miles (225 kilometers) from the border. Tovar says authorities believe it involved powerful and violent Mexican drug cartels.
Tovar says access points to Thomason Hospital have been limited and other security measures are being taken.
In January, the hospital was put on lockdown after admitting a police official wounded in an ambush in Ciudad Juarez, across the Rio Grande from El Paso.
