The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) prevented terrorist attacks in the Moscow subway and spa towns in the Caucasus, FSB director Alexander Bortnikov said at a meeting of the National Antiterrorist Committee on Tuesday.
“As a result of joint work by FSB and the Russian interior ministry carried out in May in the course of providing security at the inauguration ceremony of the Russian president and festive events of the Moscow subway, terrorist plans to carry out attacks in the Moscow subway have been thwarted,” the FSB director said.
“Law-enforcement bodies have intercepted the activities of the criminal group which prepared to carry out acts of terror in spa towns of the Caucasus, seizing a large quantity of firearms, ammunition and bomb pars, as well as extremist literature,” Bortnikov said.
