The Justice Department says international arms dealer Monzer al-Kassar has been extradited to New York to face federal terrorism charges arising from a sting conducted by U.S. drug agents.

The Syrian-born Al Kassar was extradited by Spain on Thursday and arrived in New York accompanied by U.S. drug agents.

Al Kassar will appear in federal court in New York later Thursday.

The government alleges that he plotted to sell thousands of machine guns, millions of rounds of ammunition, rocket-propelled grenade launchers and surface-to-air missiles to leftist FARC rebels in Colombia to shoot down U.S. helicopters operating there. In the sting, two confidential informants working with U.S. drug agents posed as buyers for FARC.
