A man, apparently known to police, Ziad Mohamad Jeha was arrested at the Calgary International Airport Tuesday after a handgun was detected in his carry-on luggage.

Security officers in a pre-boarding screening area at concourse D noticed the gun inside the luggage and alerted police just after noon Tuesday.

Police arrested the man without incident and seized an unloaded, small caliber handgun and several rounds of ammunition from the bag, said Calgary police. They believe the man was flying to Saskatoon.

Ziad Mohamad Jeha, 30, of Calgary, has been charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, possession of a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon without a permit and possession of a restricted weapon with readily accessible ammunition.

Calgary police said the suspect is known to them.

I live in Calgary and this week we have had 8 bombs planted by persons unknown and a Muslim man trying to board a plane with a gun and ammunition. I’m not surprised as this behaviour is encouraged here as ‘multi-cultural’ and everyone has to be allowed to continue with the behaviour in their home country and not try to join in with Canadian society. I fear that this is just the beginning and fear for Canada in the long run.

ziad is my uncle i dont think that he would do such a dumb thing because he is smarter than that it was probably a setup because of the fact that it was not his handbag it was some body elses .
my uncle has never ever had a gun before so it had to be a setup he did say that he had left the bag unatended to go to the washroom he had left it by a near by seat and that is all i know because i only go to talk to him once.

It was his handbag. He thinks hes above the law and this is just a small indication that he is not. He is well known to the Calgary police for a reason and let me tell you its not because of his charity work around the city……. You should tell your uncle to read the rules and regulations on the air canada website before attempting to fly with a gun although I dont see flying anywhere in his near future.

Got something to say?
