Man Decapitated ‘Beheaded’ Aboard Greyhound Bus – Canada – Updates

A man aboard a Canada Greyhound bus was decapitated after being repeatedly stabbed b y another passenger. Police said Thursday they didn’t know what prompted a passenger on a Greyhound bus heading to Winnipeg to viciously attack the man sitting next to him.

Passengers said the man repeatedly stabbed his seat-mate before beheading him and carrying the victim’s head around the bus.

Shocked passengers described the horrific attack as something incomprehensible.

Victim and Assailant Identified

Police have not confirmed the identity of the man stabbed to death aboard a bus late Wednesday and beheaded, according to witness accounts, but friends have said it was Tim McLean Jr., 22, of Winnipeg. (Tim McLeans MySpace Page)

RCMP announced Friday morning that they have charged Vince Weiguang Li, 40, of Edmonton with second-degree murder. He is scheduled to appear at the Manitoba provincial court in Portage la Prairie.

One moment, the quiet man near the back of the bus was minding his own business. The man hadn’t talked to anyone around him, and seemed to pay no attention to the younger fellow sitting next to him, who was listening to music on headphones.

The next moment, witnesses said, the older man stood up, still quiet, and repeatedly stabbed, then beheaded his younger victim.

“We heard this blood-curdling scream and turned around, and the guy was standing up, stabbing this guy repeatedly, like 40 or 50 times,” Garnet Caton said Thursday from a hotel in Brandon, Man., where he and other passengers had been taken to rest.

“There was no rage or anything. He was like a robot, stabbing the guy.”

Caton said the bus stopped and everyone scrambled to get out while the attacker started methodically carving up the victim’s body, not paying attention to anyone else.

Caton and the driver shut the bus door from the outside while they waited for police to arrive.

“We put our bodies up against the door, waiting for him to come out … and he went back and brought the head to the front and pretty much displayed it … and dropped it on the ground in front of us,” Caton said.

“All very calmly. He was wearing sunglasses. It was no big deal to him.”

Fellow passenger Cody Olmstead from Kentville, N.S., also recalled the chilling scene.

“The guy came to the front of the door with buddy’s head in his hands, decapitated. He dropped the head and went back and started cutting the body back up,” Olmstead said.

Here’s a piece of information not making it into the MSM who are describing what Li did to the body only as “desecration”: Li ate some of his victim’s flesh.

From a police scanner recording of an officer at the scene describing events as they happened:

[Li is] at the back of the bus, hacking off pieces and eating it.

Caton said he heard a “blood-curdling scream” and turned around to see the attacker holding a large “Rambo” hunting knife above the victim, “continually stabbing him in the chest area.”

“He must have stabbed him 50 times or 60 times,” said Caton.

“Like, just everywhere, arms, legs, neck, chest, guts, wherever he could swing it, he got it,” said Olmstead.

“It looked kind of like a scuffle or an argument, you know, and then somebody’s, like, ‘Knife! Knife! Run!’ so I was running up the alleyway, slapping people telling them to get going, move, get off the bus. I got pushed over, some lady got pushed over, I was just making sure everybody was OK, and we all got off the bus,” said Olmstead

As panicked passengers fled the bus, “the attacker was over top of the victim … continually cutting him. I think the victim was gone at that point,” Caton said.

Trio tried to check on victim

Caton, the driver and a trucker who had stopped at the scene later boarded the vehicle to see if the victim was still alive.

“When we came back on the bus, it was visible at the end of the bus he was cutting the guy’s head off and pretty much gutting him up,” said Caton.

The attacker ran at them, Caton said, and they ran out of the bus, holding the door shut as he tried to slash at the trio.

When the attacker tried to drive the bus away, the driver disabled the vehicle, Caton said.

“While we were watching the door, he calmly walks up to the front with the head in his hand and the knife and just calmly stares at us and drops the head right in front of us,” said Caton.

“They did an awesome thing, holding him in there, because if not, what would have happened?” said Olmstead.

How sick, it makes me think of a scripture in revelations that says “Whoa to you on the earth because the devil has come down to you in full force because he knows his time is short.” The fullness of evil is upon us…but so is the kingdom of God and of our Lord Jesus Christ…so all i can say is ” Come Lord Jesus” As God Kingdom draws near ..the devil is angry

murdering someone to show murderers how wrong murder is seems a bit stupid and backwards.

when you claim to be a civilized nation and hold as your highest principles humane treatment for everyone, that means everyone, including the sickest of the sick. its called integrity to follow through on your principles, otherwise you are no different than the common animals on the streets.

this guy is a sicko, thats for sure…but you all acting like him and advocating for his murder doesnt make you any different than him….it makes YOU worse, actually. hes probably completely insane….whats YOUR excuse for being bloodthirsty animals?

To all the people talking about gun laws and the need to be able to defend ourselves I am in agreement. A gun in the hand of the right person might have saved the young man’s life. But there aren’t very many right people. It’s more likely some innocent bystander would have been shot by some panicked would-be hero.
Take it a step further and imagine if the psychopath had a gun himself. There are no perfect gun laws. Canada’s are a joke. And so are America’s. Canada prevents people from defending themselves and America makes it necessary for people to defend themselves by giving guns to morons.

  4. the fat, stupid, uneducated American says:

This thing is shocking and horrifying to say the least.

My first thoughts upon reading this ( of course) were of the victim. My second were of the passengers on this bus and how horrible this must have been for them. I think we all naturally have different reactions as to how we would deal with something so horrific. For some it would seem perfectly reasonable to flee the situation out of fear, and under the assumption that it was out of our control to help anyway. But to others this way of thinking understandably seems selfish and cowardly. But none of us can really know what we would do until faced with that reality. I pray that it will never come to that.

My third reaction is why are so many posts anti-american. I mean, I know insulting and degrading Americans is the new black, but it’s getting a little tiresome. I mean the general consensus it seems, is that were all a bunch of arrogant, brain dead rednecks, that fire our pistols in the air while we sip moonshine and watch reruns of Dirty Harry….. OH and were fat too! I musn’t forget that one, that’s the most important detail.

Well, as an American it’s all getting a little boring to me. I’ve heard it all before and it says more about those who are saying it than it does about us. I for one don’t believe that our two countries are all that different and neither are their inhabitants. Yes, some of the laws may be different, and yes Canada is a much safer place but that doesn’t excuse the wave of sweeping generalizations about Americans. But for those who mindlessly follow like sheep, please, keep on with the fat remarks, the uneducated jibes, the Bush comments, the gun toting senarios and the usual diatribe, were expecting it.

And for the record, I am not fat, I do not own a gun, I don’t care for Bush, and I don’t think I ‘m stupid. I practice tolerance and teach my child the same. Maybe some of you folks should try it.

  5. the fat, stupid, uneducated American says:

And….I don’t mean to seem one-sided because there has also been a lot of Canada bashing on here as well, which is just as bad.

  6. Willis says:

I’ve read through all the comments above mine, and I’d like to say first off; My condolences to Tim’s family for their tragic and heart wrenching loss.

The second thing I’d like to say is that this kind of America vs Canada arguments get us no where. America has guns, so people shoot eachother. Canada doesn’t have guns, people stab eachother. Violent crimes will never be abolished, limiting the amount of violence someone can feasibly do is really the only solution.

I take buses 3-4 a month, on hour to hour and a half trips, so I’m not new to being scared of an occurence such as this and I’d be lying if I didn’t dream or think up all the different ways I’d attempt to take down an attacker. But in this situation you have to think of the tactical situation, as the American John Waynes pointed out, a couple strong men, or one guy with a gun, would’ve saved the day.
Wrong. FIrst: The kid was dead, their positioning (geographically) wouldn’t have let the kid recieve aid effectively. Second: The aisles on those buses barely allow me to walk up the aisle without putting one foot in front of the other, and the seats have a headrest, making them high enough to prevent movement below the waist. Your advantages are gone. He’s got reach and a bladed weapon, and you can’t maneuver to his back or side. Third, there are no obvious weapons on the bus, although the trucker must have had a hockey stick, baseball bat, broom or something similar around that they could’ve grabbed. Containing the man was the best action. The bus driver and passenger did the right thing, at the right time.

The other thing I wanted to point out to the American John Waynes is this: Have you ever seen someone get stabbed like this? Have you ever seen someone being beheaded or gutted? Do you have the faintest idea what the smell would be like? The tension in the air? The cold eyes of a man capable of such an act without outward display of emotion? I seriously doubt you know any of this. You’re not horrified sitting at home but witnessing something like this will seriously deflate your testosterone bubble of “courage”.

This man shouldn’t be executed, he should be observed and studied, so we can figure out why and how he came to make his gruesome decision, so we can attempt to prevent in the future. Just killing him doesn’t solve our problem, as he’s locked up and going no-where. When will you realize that the depths of the human psyche are so deep, that we can’t figure out everything so fast, and that studying people like this give us insight, and coupld possibly allow us to treat them better.

You can fight fire with fire, but when the world’s alight, you will burn.

Your ignorant statement merely goes to show that you know nothing about guns, or the use of them, or the regulations surrounding them.
First of all, you CAN NOT carry a wepon on a bus, car, self, or ANYWHERE in the US if you do not have a concealed carry permit. Why dont you look up how you have to obtain this right to carry concealed. You will find that there is an extensive background search for any felony convictions, drug use (even a DUI) etc…. To top that off you have to go to your Local Sheriff, or another state source to take a course in Gun saftey, proper use, and prove that you can fire your weapon safely and accurately.

Im so sick of (some) liberals deciding that guns are evil and must be stricken from the hands of law abiding citizens. I keep a gun to protect myself and my family, not particularily out of fear of the government or to necissitate any kind of superhero mentality. You will never stop crime, you will never allieviate it with gun bans. You will merely keep guns out of “Law Abiding” citizens hands. Anyone can find a gun with a modest level of motivation, especially in states and countries that have banned them. When implement gun control, your merely expanding the black market. If anyone really wants to understand gun control, or guns, or why we should have them take a look at the book “Nation of Cowards”, with an open mind. So many people would like to think that it just “feels right” not to have guns, why dont you try to make logical non-biased decisions regurading the issue instead of “feeling” all the time.

Why dont you take a look at England, see their crime rate, see how their problems have been “working themselves out”. If you dont know history, your bound to repeat the mistakes of others, this seems to be ignorant bliss here in the states.

You dont want a gun, dont buy one, but dont tell me to I cant have one because your scared so easily by somthing you dont understand.

I will always have a gun, with, or without the consent of my government because my first priority as a man, and as a citizen is to protect my family, and if possible, those around me. If you think this is bullshit masculine penis thinking, than I reccomend you move to a state with lots of people like me so maybe, just maybe someone will be there to save your ass. Cops arent under any obligation, and neither is the government.

Canadians made their choice about gun control, but im not canadian so I dont particularly care. I have been to Canada, and I have nothing against canadians. But dont call American men, that have chosen to act like men to be bigoted cowards talking out of ignorance. If I was on that bus in the states, I would have shot that man, (if he didnt stop), and that is the simple truth of it. But it wasnt in the states, and I wasnt on that bus. I am not saying they were cowards, im saying they made a choice, but dont tell people not to judge either as you are also so quick to pass your own judgements.

  8. Adolphson says:

Look through the eyes of the victim, not the bystanders.

  9. John says:

People assume too much: I’m a vet and seen combat; I also grew up in a neighborhood where you had to watch your back and know how to fight…I’ve been in more than a few fights in my life (unlike apparantly this poor kid Tim McLean) and it’s not because I’m violent or I started them I didn’t they just happened. ANYONE who’s lived a full life and been around has been in tight situations even if it’s just a drunk in a bar or a paranoid druggie in a club at 2AM. Anyone who’s lived a big city like I do has witnessed bizarre crap like a fight on a busy street or someone freaking out on a subway train; it just happens.

I certainly standby what I posted previously; at the very least the armed cops should have prevented the psycho from further mutilating the poor kid’s body….it was and is wrong and rules and regulations that prevent them from acting in those situations (which probably exist in the U.S. but I’m not a law enforcement expert or lawyer) are in my opinion wrong.

If I was Mr. McLean’s friends and family I’d be furious and justifiably so.

Finally, the death penalty for crimes like this has existed for eons; it’s only post WW2, and more recently than that, that western governments with the notable excepton of the U.S. (and even then most states don’t execute; what non-Americans seem to have great difficulty in comprehending is individual states are have much authority over their jurisdictions and the U.S. is far less centralized and controlled by a central federal government unlike Canada for example which is highly centralized) have decided they’re too “civilized” to deal with violent crime harshly…..what a load of BS; the death penalty is a PUNISHMENT and anyone who doesn’t think this psycho or sick freaks like Paul Bernardo don’t deserve to be executed are naive at best and cold and delusional towards their victims and the victims of sick puppys like them past, present and future, at worst.

Man, the sick things many people will say and do in order to feel better than and superior towards those nasty “Yanks”….it’s pathetic.

  10. John says:

It’s my understanding there was an ex-Canadian soldier onboard and what he says he wanted to tackle the psycho and requested other grown men around him to help but they turned and ran. Now that’s sad but typical; the guy who showed guts was in the armed forces.

What a hateful world we live in. Some of your comments are more disgusting than the event itself. Such a shame.

  15. Helen says:

It truly is disgusting that being in awe and fear has become an acceptable excuse for us to let eachother die. We are cowards as a society and no other plausible excuse is acceptable. The movie industry makes billions of dollars exploiting and promoting these horrific crimes on the big screen, and human nature feeds into it. Now that it happens in real life, we are so desensitized by it and the surrealness of it all gives us the excuse to do nothing? No! Not acceptable! You can say what you want but when there is one man, one weapon, versus multiple MEN…shock, trauma, and a need to see what happens next subsides quick enough to promote action. The people on the bus thought of themselves FIRST, and of the poor kid last.

Agreed, by the time they would have acted the kid was most probably dead…but now he has to have a closed casket funeral and is in probably in multiple pieces. You live with that thought as accountable citizens on the bus; while his mother has nightmares every night over the horrific details of this atrocity. WAY TO GO CITIZENS OF THE WORLD! This is the kind of bologna that reaches the Law and Ethics texts books in school.

Am I outraged? Absolutely. There are countless stories of groups of peopl who standby and watch others get killed or maimed by ONE just ONE assailant and they do nothing. In psychology they term it, “diffusion of responsibility”. Each person thinks someone else will do. Well darn it, Next time something like this happens know that it takes the brave actions of just ONE person to incite others into action.

Have a nice life. I hope nothing like this ever happens to you.

I havnt been able to get this out of my mind since my mom told me about it . though the story I heard was way diffrent from what really happend. I feel Like I new the guy just by looking at his photos and reading his myspace, I just want to cry! its terriable to think this kind of thing happends every day around the world . Every one is right in one way or another. Sometimes when things happen so fast like this theres no thinking about it you just want to get out of harms way .but in 0ther cases you just react and try and help. I know its not nearly as close to what happend but I was in that kinda sitution awhile back me and my boyfriend were at a coffee stand late at night no one else around but a guy standing behind our car. and most of you no you cant serve walk up guest at places like that after dusk but he was very eager for us to leave but we didnt I really belive in my mind if we hadnt stayed with that girl he would have tried to rob her that night now i dont think he had a weapon but he very well could have but we would not leave until the poilce got there.(it was way more detailed but its not important so im not getting into the hole story) it all depends on the moment, now when you think about it your all like i would have done any thing to stop that guy from doing any more damage but when you wake up or just hearing some one yell hes gotta knife get off the bus what else are you supposed to do? Im lost for words I dont want to say the wrong thing to make this sitation worse I dont no if this mans family is reading these so people be carful what you say. but i can only say that this world is messed up with messed up people and I hope that tims family is alright and you guys are in my prayers Im SO SO SO SO SO SO sorry this had to happen. really it hasnt left my mind since i heard about it. I jsut hope the guy who did this gets help or understands what he did I dont care if he is sick It was messed up and he should be punished for what he did this guy had a family its not fair. once agian im sorry and your in my prayers tim mcleans family.

  24. Orlando says:

Okay, now I see alot of people talking about what would have happened if the Canadians had the right to carry concealed firearms and how numbers can overpower a terrorist/pycho.

Most likely, a person with a firearm wouldnt react to the situation by firing a gun at the attacker because of the shear shock and fear.
If someone did fire a gun in the bus they could hit another person easily, so it would take quite some accuracy.

But heres the truth, criminals dont let a gun ban stop them from accessing weapons.
Theres plenty of underground criminal networks, illegal weapons, and gun smugglers for criminals to get their hands on.
Gun laws only stop law obeying citizens from defending themselves in such a situation, a criminal on the other hand doesnt care about a ban and will get their hands on a weapon.

As for overpowering an attacker, it could be done, but the fact is that a deep stab can put someone’s body into shock and thus making them easier to kill, so the victim with just a few stabs from that large combat knife would go into shock and begin to bleed to death.

Now, attacking an airplane hijacker, the biggest deterant is that the have a bomb which may or may not work, but if it does work then the entire plane will blow up into a huge fireball of burning jet fuel in midair.

The 9/11 terrorist would most likely tell people they were gonna land the plane and make demands, not crash the plane into a building, so thats why when AA flight 93 found out they were gonna crash, they decided to attack.
The first plane’s victims did not know of the impending death and so did nothing to save themselves.

I would hate to see the day Americans cant have weapons, cause then the only ones with weapons are criminals who get them illegally and cops who come too late.

  25. Miss.C says:

It is self evident that this guy was tormented pyschologically and spiritually, I believe this matter has much to deal with a deeper issue other than the fact that this man is “crazy”. Jesus Christ himself has mentioned these cases in the bible but society labels cases such as these as “psychotic.” We need to emphasize more on the root of the issue! This man is spiritually disturbed!

  26. Sylvia says:

Proud Texan.First of all my prayers are with the victims family.Obviously a trajedy that noone saw coming.I feel bad that this young guy’s life was taken from him and yet many of the reply’s posted are about what country is better and what not.I don’t think that anyone could say what they would have done if on that bus because noone knows how they would react in that situation. Some people want to act like superheroes but a man who is crazy like that would take many people to take him down.Good thinking for the bus driver on disabling the bus.I’m sure many passengers are thankful for the guy who yelled for them to get the hell off the bus because who knows who would have been the next victim.I feel that guy did not only think of himself and It’s not fair for anyone to say that canadian’s are cowards because they did not try to help. Those guys did make an attempt to go back on the bus and try to help that poor guy who lost his life.It was just one of those things where it was too late because of the location where the victim was attacked and quickly. We are all human beings and need to realize this can happen ANYWHERE whether with a knife, gun, etc.We just need to open our eyes and speak up if something’s not right. My heart goes out to the victim and his family, the passengers, bus driver, and anyone affected by this.

  27. Cyrus says:

This is so horrifyingly shocking. My thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and friends. And one question, is this savage murdering cannibal Vince Wei Guang Li a Chinese? I’d say he’d better be deported if he is not to be hanged.

  28. BlueState says:

    Dear Canadians:

First and foremost, my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim. I cannot imagine what it must be like for them to live with the thought of a loved one meeting his end in this way. Thinking of what must have gone through Tim McLean’s mind at the time of the attack, I also hope he did not suffer too long. The horror of this event is extreme.

Second, I plead with you guys to ignore the ignorant “Americans” who see it fit to berate a whole nation and its laws based on hypothetical “what ifs” regarding one incident. Not all Americans favor looser guns laws, nor are we all in favor of the death penalty (especially not for the mentally ill or mentally retarded). Many of us have taken the pains to think through, carefully, about both issues and have come to the conclusion that neither is a good way to deal with violent crime. Canada’s laws, if anything, shows progress in the right direction, away from inhumanity and toward more humane and rational ways to address violence. Regardless, Canada does not need to change its laws to please the ignorant of the Earth.

On another note, for those Canadians who hope for the reinstating of capital punishment, please consider the source of such wishes. What are your motives? Would putting this obviously mentally ill man to death do anything other than momentarily satisfy your thirst for blood and revenge, if that is in fact the reason for wanting the death of yet another human being? If your concern lies more with preventing this same man from hurting another in the future, I believe life without parole, with access to medical and psychiatric treatment, would pretty much achieve this aim.

I hope that in honoring Tim McLean’s life, Canadians will refrain from seriously considering reinstating a barbaric law, now only in existence in relatively few and relatively unenlightened places in the world. Canadians, be proud!

  29. Mark says:

Wow, I can’t believe it escalated to an American vs. Canadian brawl over who would’ve done what. Well, I got one for you, I’m a SOUTHERN American, from Alabama, and that part of me says I would’ve jumped on the guy and beat him senseless with his own knife. The realistic part says that no matter how tough, how macho, how manly you are, you never know what you’re going to do when you’re watching someone you may have just spoken to get their head sawed off. And apparently the driver and the other guys did something or he would’ve gotten off the bus and killed more.
My heart goes out to his family. Anyone who goes to this kid’s MySpace page will see, he was an ordinary kid who could’ve been anyone of us. Or one of our kids. And Canada? You’re like our step-brother. We don’t like the same things, try to go after the same girl, and argue, but we are pretty much the same.

  30. Mags says:

I agree completely with the first comment, we ARE living in the last days and this world is completely blind to that fact. You can deny it and say you don’t believe that, but it doesn’t change what is going to happen. Prophecy IS being fulfilled right now, and we are at the end of the prophecy. The information is available to EVERYONE if you open your eyes to it. Yes, people get murdered everyday, but that does NOT make it normal by any means!

  32. Brandon says:

To those of you who say that the people who stated that they would try to help the victim that they were not there and didn’t know what it feels like. To the people that said that, I say you do not know them, how they would act, etc. If you want to hate on Americans I say your trying to start some kind of petty war that could escalate to a world war. I think the people on that bus were kind of selfish, but their safety were more important to them in that “state of shock.” I have seen many people die, for I was a soldier in the army. I would have helped the guy. The witness said “He was stabbed *5* or *6* times before he stopped screaming. Thats enough time to get up, and attempt to help the victim. If i was on that bus, I wouldn’t care if he was insane, I would die to help someone else, no matter who they are. Several of them could have helped. As for the gun laws, criminals can get guns either way, if they weren’t banned at least people in the right minds could get their hands on one. Canadians, stop calling the Americans stupid, fat, and un-educated. Americans, don’t call them cowards because they don’t believe in violence. I think everyone should just shut up until they know the facts straight.
Don’t Yell at me because I’m saying Canadians and Americans are both STUPID FOR FIGHTING EACH OTHER. Those are my thoughts, and I’m sticking to them.

Watch the dvd “Psychiatry – Industry of Death” on the Citizen’s Commission on Human Rights web site. Put all of his psychiatrists on trial for murder with him. Armed with destructive drugs whose well-published side effects are HOMICIDE and SUICIDE, with ECT – electro-convulsive shock therapy, with insulin shock and brain operations, psychiatry is doing a number on us all, so invisible, all the while getting paid for it. Somebody please investigate what psychiatrists did to Li in those 4 days…Or you or I or one of our children or our mother …. will be the next victim of psychiatry’s ruined and destroyed patients…You may be sitting beside one of the patients from Toronto Western Hospital’s gigantic experiment DBS – deep brain stimulation where electrodes are implanted in the brain and current is sent there 24 hours a day. They are expanding their programme to 200 people now. Please expose this silent but very hyperactive sector – psychiatry.

  34. Peter says:

    Dear Blue State,

I am not blood thirsty or vengeful. I believe I have thought through my stance in a reflective and thoughtful manner. I think many of you assume I want capital punishment as a sweeping solution to all violent crime. I don’t!

All I was saying was we should all band together and propose a new category of punishment called “Heinous Crimes Against Society” and realistically acknowledge that some crimes are beyond the scope of rational thought and should be dealt with outside the criminal code.

If a pit bull attacks your child do you not take action to protect your child possibly acting with deadly force and killing the offending animal? If a bear comes into your neighborhood do you not take action and call the appropriate authorities to deal with the dangerous threat?

This man is a deeply flawed and acted like a beast. The tragedy is, he knows it, yet he is helpless to prevent it from happening again. Why do you think his only words were “Please kill me”.

Yes, I do agree a quick and convenient shooting of this man would be perhaps too good for him and it actually is what he wants since he is obviously tortured by some internal demons or genetic flaw. This is just bad all around and their are no winners here.

Why should I rightfully not resent a justice system for wasting so much of my money and resource keeping this animal under “observation” when I myself and many honest hard working citizens work double shifts, pay more than our fair share of taxes and sacrifice ourselves for country, honor, decency and family?

Why should I have to pay for this mans upkeep for possibly 50 more years while I myself have fantasies of some day hoping I can maybe go to a goddamn movie with my wife or go on a vacation with my family.

Should I be pleased that all our hard work as citizens is going into the abyss of creating an almost celebrity status out of the criminally insane. It is not, as claimed by Greyhound or the Transportation Ministry, too difficult to ensure any possible weapons be kept off buses. Where there is a will there is a way!

Give your head a shake – Wake up!

Anger is sometimes justified and necessary to send a strong message that society will not tolerate a certain behavior.

Are we too soft? – - Yes!

Why was a six hour standoff tolerated. Come out with your hands up! NO? Too bad – bang – bang – you’re dead. By not coming out of that damn bus he was not complying with the law and he was actively resisting arrest!

I got pulled over once for a U-turn on my street and when I got out of my car the peace officer practically threatened to shoot me .

I think it is so Heinous a crime even the trained pros were in shock and awe of how this person could do such a crime.

I do agree with one of the posts that the there is value in studying him, build a profile and learn as much as possible about his disorder or spiritual sickness as possible. Maybe he should be poked and prodded and drugged up and tested to the ‘nth degree or maybe he should just rot in a jail cell with his demons and eventually he may find some way of doing himself in by suicide, fellow inmate, guard or citizen sniper – whatever.

My point is, the damage is done and I along with my children have to take on the burden of paying for his illness as well. Why can’t we just cut our losses?

Is he not being rewarded for his deed? Free room and board with no responsibility for his actions?

    What about copy cats?

Once they find out the new level of shock and awe to society for a free ride in Canada’s justice system they will exploit it and make it into a new growth industry just like many overcrowded private – for profit – prisons down south.

We are obligated – whether we like it or not – to think about this seriously as a society for I think we are making a mistake in trying to over-study madness!

Rabies are Rabies and should be dealt with accordingly!

  35. michael says:

Like so many others, the sheer horror of this event haunts my mind, chills me, and causes me to wonder what I would gave done if only…

And if I had a gun with barely enough training to pull a trigger, would I have been willing to take a chance in a crowded, moving bus with children and increasingly agitated folk and fired a shot knowing I would have a reasonable chance of ending one or more innocent lives by accident? Or worse, causing another gun wielding passenger who doesn’t fully get what I’m trying to accomplish then take aim at me thinging now that >> I << am the madman? Especially if I miss and kill a child? (A lot of heads must have been bobbing up and down in those high seat backs!)

So before rushing to understandable judgement and running a political, religious or other personal agenda as part of our outrage, maybe we need get all the facts first.

And do we know if the murderer had a rational mind or was known to have an uncontrolled, poorly medicated, psychosis?

I realize that some understandably are regretably ready to repeat the mistakes in the wasteful response to 9-11, with all its still-not-fully-understood consequences. This tendency to blame curse and argue has been part of the human condition for as long as, well, humanity has been here, eh? So I invite those who can appreciate the need to wait for the facts to have compassion and not over-react and plunder Canadian good-sense laws to satisfy the emotional whims of angry reactions.

  36. Alex says:

this makes me sick. if i was on that bus and the passenger beside me got attacked i would have done everything in my power to stop that. noone deserves to be beheaded

  37. Bob Cobb says:

Vince Li lives (lived) fifteen minutes away from my house, where EVERY DAY this summer I have been sleeping with the window open (Edmonton obviously).

After seeing the hostage decapitation videos, I was pretty ruined for a couple years, just so disgusting and such a way to put the last thoughts of a person through, where the last moments of their life should be bliss, not horror.

But this could have happened aboard a carpool, park bench out in the open, McDonalds where he worked, etc., and the Death Penalty has been proven time and time again to be an EXTREMELY POOR hindrance and prevention to the commitment of a crime. And in this situation where mental instability is clearly a factor, prevention and early diagnosis is essentially the only means to combat such an attack without outright destroying the very society in which you live through martial law and monitoring.
The death penalty is a horrible thing (I’d gladly spend my Tax Dollars to keep somebody alive than kill them, even pieces of shit, because I just don’t believe in murdering somebody). Particularly in this case, where it’s nothing more than a knee-jerk reaction, as the poorly executed Afghanistan war and other measures were, following the 9/11 attacks, or something as simple and ridiculous as killing sting-rays following Steve Irwin’s unfortunate death. It’s a matter of feeling like “doing something for this” when you just simply can’t, and MUST allow logic to overshadow emotion.

Prevention will be the ultimate way to deal with crime in human future. I myself am not scared or really turned off by prison or execution to commit a crime; I simply don’t want to commit a crime and love preserving life and peace.
Ironic living within a short walk from this murderer.

I really hope, knowing that Tim Mclean has already passed away, that his death was at least quick, and adrenaline (nor-epinephrine) release masked any possible pain, and shock produced the scream, not pain.
The decapitation followed the death, which is about the only possible solice one can find in this situation. Physically decapitating a person still living by holding them down is just despicable, and I want to murder all of those fanatical middle-eastern pieces of shit that have beheaded innocent people through their mindless pursuit of a worse world. I still don’t believe in capital punishment, though I want personally beat the living shit out of them to the point near death.

In this case though it seems to return to a state of mental instability. It’s such a unique situation because it was so out of the blue, not matching any of the people I’ve talked to that know Vince describing his personality and demeanor, and a near impossible crime to prevent in any nation, anywhere, ever, except through early detection and prevention.

It’s important to limit emotion and retain logic as best as you can. If Tim was a friend of mine, I’d personally find Vince and probably beat him near death, but this is truthfully an emotional reaction of losing a friend (hypothetically), and through distance one can discern obviously this to be not a sound course of action. Being shackled he will probably never breathe a free breath again, and has lost his life to his own mental instability too. That being said, prevention of a crime reoccurring is the main point of justice, not vengeance (which is the real attempt at most first-world nations to overcast previous vengeance-driven justice systems to more sound forms of crime reduction and prevention).

Since I’m an atheist, I hope one day Tim can be born again (it seems although statistically difficult, scientifically one is likely to regain consciousness eventually once their previous body decays and the matter (neural matter) can form into another fetus->human) and lives a great life that time, because his life was all too short this time, and he appeared to be a good man, precisely my age as well.
Best thoughts and hopes for Tim’s family, what little that means unfortunately at a time like this.

  38. Sophie says:

i think that the man was abosolutley sick, and freaked me and all my family out, as we were on holiday in Canada at the time,
And Alex, why are you saying that, how can you get to him when the man was on top of him, and then even if you did get to him, then you would most likely to be killed and 1 death is better then 2, and t be honist i would rather be more concerned about the other people on the bus like children ect .. so id get them off firrst, but that man was a total cyko and nobody knew what he was kapable of ! he could of had a gun on him or anything , so dont think youd be some hero saving him, when you could of been the main problem. I mean what if you had of done something and he would of gone for you or any other inocent person on the bus like a child or an old woman? ,
i get your point about saying you would help but there is acctually nothing nobody could of done to stop the man.

  39. steve says:

the thing is we arent safe anywhere and we never were but what are u going to do stay in ur house all day… no learn how to pay attention to ur surrounding even on back on the school bus if someone stands up next to me im looking at their hands. and its other peoples duties to help another out and in that case no one did they all b*tched out and u cant do that and call yourself anything but a selffish assh*le

  40. J.C. says:

As you may see we still live in a primitive society. These things would never happen in a highly evolved society. We have yet much to learn even though we have progressed in technology, we still create weapons that destroy us. This is just a small example to show that we haven’t progressed much in spiritual evolution.

  41. chuck norris says:

i told my friend about this and he told me who cares its canada just hearring this story makes me whant to cry my father told me about this story on fox news . com then today i wantedd to look up mcdoanlds and the first video that pops up is this one and i remeber the story i saw the killer and the victim and it just makes you want to think of meeting the guy then you find out he gets decapitated and also stabed to death this man had a demon also that satan could be in the earth and i am a american and what haif of you on here are saying about us i totally agree on screw u.s.a we are very mean and dont give a shit about others besides us and if this is are genaration then my god help us satan will not be allowed into heven any more he still cant go to hell but one day god will be cum so angry with the world for all of the evil that he will shake the whole earth and everyone and liveing thing will fell it so this is right then this is only the begining

  42. aa says:

You Americans are even crazier than this guy.

You wish there were concealed weapons on this bus? You wish there was the death penalty in Canada?

You have both in the U.S.

You have one of the worst crime rates in the ENTIRE WORLD in the US.

    Go figure.

  43. Diego says:

The person above me got it right.

  44. Kayla says:

it makes me so mad reading these comments. did some of you even read the entire article?!!

people think they could have done better, but they couldn’t have. they say that they would have done this, or that, but they wouldn’t have. I am an American, and what makes me mad the most, is that this is why other countries hate us! cause of people who leave these retarded comments and say they would have done it differently when they didn’t even read the entire article!

its probably a good thing that you can’t carry concealed weapons in Canada cause if he had a gun, more then one person would have been dead. its awful what happened and i would never wish this on anyone. people may die everyday from brutal deaths but that doesn’t make any one of them worth less then the others.

I went to several sites and read about this and its just awful. The victim was a guy who was very well loved and is going to be missed considerably. from what i’ve heard, the 22 year old lived his short life to the fullest. he was a great role model, and a phenominal friend. can many of the people here leaving comments truthfully say that they’ve lived such a fulfilling life too?

  45. annoynmous says:

this is just disgusting! Who would do such a thing. What is wrong with this world? Im catching the GreyHound bus next week and im so nervous ever since this happened! MY god.

  46. american says:

it’s horrible that the passengers fled the bus, but what would you have done in that situation? it’s easy to look on the story and say ” oh yeah, i would have defended the teenager”, but honestly, if in that situation, most would have fled like they did.
also, it could be the end of the world, it could not be. the best thing to do is to pray and keep Jesus in your heart.

  47. Livecbradio says:

That has got to be the most chilling police scanner action I have ever heard.

  48. peggy rickard says:

This is a very sad, horrible thing. My heart goes out to those parents. I am also sad to hear the jabs at each others country. However I think the attitude world wide is: Its o.k. to bash Americans. There are normal down to earth people in the u.s. who love and have a heart. I put my self in the place of the murdered young man and I would say: “God please send some one to save my life” I would think as a mom and see that boy as my boy—-I have 5 sons. It would be scarey but if I saw this I probably spot a couple big guys and say lets get him—once he is down maybe others would follow. In Gods word he says to us that if we see someone being led to the slaughter that we are to try and save life. This isnt a u.s.—canada thing. There is evil in both countries.Didnt I see where a pig farmer murdered many fols in canada? We could go on and on bashing each other–that is cruel. Those poor family members

  49. Zephaniah says:

Yes, we are living in the end times. I am sorry that you do not see it…you may wish that it weren’t so, but it is.
