Planters designed to stop anything short of a tank will be installed in front of terminals at Los Angeles International Airport, thanks to some federal funding secured by Rep. Jane Harman, D-Los Angeles.
Though long a staple in preventing car bombs, no barriers separate terminals from the U-shaped roadway at LAX something Harman has wanted for years. She heads the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Intelligence and Terrorism Risk Assessment.
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff will join the congresswoman, airport official and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa for an airport walk-through this afternoon to announce the upgrades.
