Russia is lashing out at the U.S. over a deal signed with Poland to place a missile defense facility in the former Soviet satellite state.

Russias Foreign Ministry says the U.S. missile shield plans are clearly aimed at weakening Russia and that Moscows response to any development beyond the current plans will go beyond diplomacy.

The ministrys statement Wednesday was not as stark as the warning from a Russian general last week that Poland is risking a Russian attack, possibly even with nuclear weapons, by agreeing to host American interceptors.

But it came amid severe tension between Russia and the U.S. over the war in Georgia.

As a scientist (ret) with over 30 years experience working with potential WMDs I would predict that the nuclear weapon tested in London (11/06) could also be used on a lage scale.

The core issue is oil. Russia is making insane profits from oil right now and this is fueling their military buildup & capability. When is the US going to realize that oil is behind a plethora of negative issues globally, including terrorism and the pending war with China over future dwindling oil supplies. We have the power to make this all become a distant memory via serious R&D into alternative energy products. I am so sick of the constant profit making for big oil companies and the politicians who are in bed with them. Instead of mcCain & Obama bantering about off-shore oil drilling, what about a serious chat about alternative energy as a business model for the US?
