West City police may have an important clue to the identity of the person who drove off with a 53-foot trailer over the weekend: The person apparently takes cream in his or her coffee.

A whole lot of cream, since the hijacked trailer was loaded with Coffee-mate creamer, a West City Police Department spokeswoman said.

The trailer was attached to a cab that was parked for several days in a parking lot at one of the village’s shopping centers, police report. When the semitrailer’s driver returned to the lot Sunday night, the cab’s window was broken and the trailer was missing.

The value of the trailer’s contents was unavailable and police offered no theories as to why that particular truck trailer was targeted in the lot full of trucks, or what thieves could do with their haul.

An Internet search revealed dozens of Web sites extolling the virtues of coffee creamer as an explosive and included several videos displaying its volatility.

The 1999 white cargo trailer belonged to Parrish Trucking of Freeburg and had the number 3062 printed on the rear door.

While everyone is preoccupied with the economy and Presidential race, possible terrorism seems to have a “free reign”. Did not know that creamer could be used in making exposives.
    I follow your reports regularly.

ah hell west city is like 25 miles from where I live. I did not know that coffee creamer was that explosive dang. I hope they find that crazy nut job before he does something stupid over here.

coffee creamer is not an EXPLOSIVE all it is used for is making fireballs with some black powder. Kinda like special effects. This is just a all for news station type of thing, and so the dumb reporter could get a good story. Terrorists would not be looking for coffee creamer to blow something up, i understand at this time in the world we have to look at every possibility but, coffee creamer, come on guys this is all out of control, they already won. You can make high explosives out of tylenol are they gonna ban that? The word explosive is thrown around to much now a days, and i think even our experts forgot the definition of explosive.

This is simply another example of the authorities having absolutely no idea what there talking about. It’s also a example idea of how the media sensationalizes trivial stories just to improve their ratings.

This story is truly laughable! There is nothing at all explosive about coffee creamer and what there finding on line is called a “cremora pot” which is a simple flame effect.

Powdered coffee creamer has a relatively high fat content and as such it burns very easily. You can place some in a bucket and disperse it into the air with a few grams of sporting grade black powder. Once the coffee creamer is dispersed in the air the fire from the black powder rapidly burns the coffee creamer producing a lovely and gentle rolling fireball.

The effect is very short lived, very quiet and not overly destructive. You wouldn’t want to put your head into the fireball but it’s doesn’t have the power to destroy anything except for maybe some misquotes flying around your back yard on a summers evening.

In most cases a “cremora pot” only serves to delight your friends and neighbors and they will likely ask you do “do it again” before they would run for cover.

Honestly you don’t even need the black powder to make this effect work … just throw a handful of coffee creamer over a camp fire when your friends aren’t paying attention and they’ll think you have some sort of magical flame throwing powers!

You can actually get this same effect using a myriad of different powdered items including coco powder, flour and even sawdust will work.

It also makes for a great school science project as you can make mini fireballs using compressed air to disperse the coffee creamer over a Bunsen burner for a great lesson on air/fuel combustion reactions.

Any terrorist who plans to use coffee creamer to terrorize the US is going to be sorely disappointed as the only thing they would leave in their wake is sense of delight and excitement!

Another example of the media getting it wrong… coffee creamer is not an explosive. Nor is it used to make explosives. It is however flamable when finely dispersed in the air. Many substances have this property. Perhaps you may remember the dust explosion at the Pillsbury grain elevator… it was quite a while ago but needless to say that was caused by ordinary white flour.

I’m sure the hits on the net were references to a cremora pot. This is a device that uses black powder to disperse and ignite cremora coffee creamer. It creates a fireball effect. I cannot see how a terrorist could use this in any effective way. One thing about a cremora pot is that you cannot make them ahead of time and transport them very far because the coffee creamer must be very fluffy. The bottom line is that you need black powder to get any kind of decent fireball and if you have access to that amount of black powder that by itself would be a much more effective destructive device. Another thing… Coffee-mate brand makes a lousy cremora pot… there are debates on why this is so.

The whole terrorist angle on this is total hype hogwash.

Please don’t make news… report it accurately.

    News Flash!

    Flour is explosive too!

Anything that is flammable can be “explosive” under the right conditions. This is more BS hype from a bureaucratic agency trying to earn the insane amounts of money being budgeted for them.

    Sheeple please; learn, think.

Coffee creamer as an explosive? Don’t fall victim to sensationalist reporting.

Yes, coffee creamer, being carbohydrate and fat, burns. Like any combustible solid (wheat flour, sawdust, powdered sugar) if you make a big dust cloud of it, and light it, you’ll get a big fireball. Not an explosion. The thought that a terrorist would use this is laughable.

Don’t forget, the government, as well as the media, benefit hugely if they can keep the people scared.
