Al-Qaeda Increases Efforts To Obtain Dirty Bomb

MI6 has issued a global priority warning to all security services that Islamic terrorists are now closer to obtaining material to create a “dirty bomb” to launch against Western targets.
Osama bin Laden has long made this a priority and reinforced it with regular messages from his mountain redoubt in the north-west province of Pakistan. He has repeatedly said every “true Muslim must make it his duty to assist in all ways possible to find the next powerful weapon to destroy our enemies”.
After the election of the new Pakistani president, the controversial Asif Ali Zardari, who has served a nine-year jail term on corruption charges he has strongly denied, MI6 fear there will be little ability to provide strong leadership against the new wave of Islamic extremism that al-Qaeda has launched across the country.
Groups such as the newly formed Pakistan Taliban have proclaimed it is focussing on creating a “dirty bomb”.
MI6 agents based in Islamabad fear the mounting instability in Pakistan will make it easier for them to do so.
While Pakistan is the only Muslim country with a nuclear arsenal, it has in the past provided its expertise to Iran.
Pakistan’s Islam bomb was developed in the 1990s by the rogue scientist, Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan. He sold them to pariah states like North Korea and Libya. He was placed under house arrest by Pervez Musharraf.
But since Musharraf was forced to resign, restrictions on Khan’s detention have been virtually lifted–a decision that has alarmed Western diplomats in Pakistan.
While Musharraf readily agreed for the US to place stringent security around Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal, there are serious concern that President Zardari will not be able to resist the rampant pressure al-Qaeda is mounting from its terrorist infrastructure base in Waziristan province in the north-west of the country.
A senior U.S. security official in Islamabad said: “Our concern is the sudden rise in intelligence which strongly indicates that al-Qaeda has renewed plans to gain access to nuclear material that could form a primitive nuclear device, one perhaps that a suicide truck bomber could use”.
In a “dirty bomb”, conventional explosives are surrounded with radioactive material.
The MI6 priority alert says such a device, while having a limited effect as a nuclear weapon, would create widespread panic.

I say the CIA drones and allied troops just start wiping/bombing out this area(Waziristan) and all this territory. Like I have said it sounds as though Pakistan is not cooperating and they are defending/protecting the terroists. Keep up the great work US and allies lets rid of these terroists NOW before it is to late and innocent lives are lost. The terroists WILL and ARE NOT WINNING THIS WAR!
Bin Laden, al Zawahiri and the rest of terroists your days are coming to an end VERY SOON. One by one, day by day, their threat to the world will soon be over and the world will hopefully be at peace again. We will no longer have to live in fear and lose innocent lives.
Khan’s release should be taken with appropriate action, he is now an open target and should be taken out if he is a threat (by continuing to spread the knowledge of nukes), simple as that.
If Pakistan cannot secure their nuclear facilities, then we (U.S.A.) should provide the protection needed, even if by force. One way or the other Pakistan MUST provide greater effort against the terrorists or be prepared to accept our actions to correct that problem.
Do un to others before they due un to you. Preemptive strike on Iran will probably come from Isreal, just like they did to Iraq several years ago. I hope the US and allies are true allies. The coalition is imperative to fight the terrorists successfully. If we ain’t ever vigilant and careful, WW3, (Islamic Jihad) is on the horizon.
This article mentions that Pakistan is the only Muslim country with a nuclear arsenal, it might be best to remember that India also has a nuclear arsenal, eventhough their Muslim population is only 13.4%.
With the recent attacks in India, this could lead to attempts by the terrorists to obtain a nuclear device. I sure hope security measures are being maintained tightly in both countries!
This article reminds us that Terrorist are trying to find other ways to cause mass casualties and destruction. Terrorism does not effect Western Nations anymore it effects other Nations to that accept Western Ideologies, the latest country to be hit hard by this is India.
India has been attacked before by Terrorist in the Past. But this latest attack hit the heart of India. Terrorist are always trying to find ways to cause chaos and it doesn’t have to be a WMD weapon. This latest Terrorist attack used Assault Rifles, Hand guns, Grenades and IED’s. This current attack worries me, mainly because they changed there tactics. They used assault Rifles and Grenades to kill the innocent. An the Terrorist main Target was Westerners, mainly U.S. and British citizens who live there, on vacation there or on a business trip. That right there tells you that Terrorist want get rid of us and get rid of Western Ideologies.
U.S. Law Enforcement Authroities are not prepared for this type of Terrorist attack.
But moving back to the topic of Dirty Bombs and Nuclear weapons.
If Terrorist Gain access to a Dirty Bomb or a Nuclear material to create a Nuclear Bomb and deploy it in the U.S. it will have devastating consequences, worst then 9/11. If that day comes, we have do whatever it takes to take out these Terrorist and there organizations. The first place to start is Iran since they sponsor Hezbollah and they have every intention to build a nuclear weapon and Hezbollah could get there hands on it. But what we need to do is cut the head of the Cobra in the Al Qeada organization, kill Osama Bin Laden you will cripple the organization.
In conclusion This is not just Americas or Britains war against Terrorism,the whole world must band together to stop these extremist from getting there hands on WMD’s - Chemical, Radiological, Biological and Nuclear Weapons.
