A robot has been combing a metro home for explosives since Tuesday morning after finding a man near Penn Square Mall with a bomb on Monday, police said.

Officers said an anonymous tip led police to Steven Andrew Jordal, 24, who has been accused of making bombs inside his northwest Oklahoma City house.

“We received a tip from an informant that he was making an explosive device and possibly had the device on (his) person,” said police spokesman Gary Knight.

That’s when police found Jordal walking near Penn Square Mall with a bomb, officers confirmed.

“He had not delivered it anywhere, and we don’t know if had any plans of blowing anything up,” Knight said.

Jordal was arrested and will be charged with possession of an explosive device with intent to sell, police said.

However, officers would not say to whom they think Jordal planned to give the bomb. In the interim, bomb-specialty robots are going through Jordal’s home to see if there are more explosives.

“Based on the fact that he made it at home, we wanted to check his house and make sure there’s nothing else in there that might be volatile, might pose a threat to the public,” Knight said.

A bomb squad spokesman said they will be at the northwest Oklahoma City home into the night.

The process takes a long time, police said, because the robots move slowly, and they plan to check the house from top to bottom.
