Report – Al Qaeda Unconventional Weapons Experiment Kills 40 Operatives

An al Qaeda affiliate in Algeria closed a base earlier this month after an experiment with unconventional weapons went awry, a senior U.S. intelligence official said Monday.
The official, who spoke on the condition he not be named because of the sensitive nature of the issue, said he could not confirm press reports that the accident killed at least 40 al Qaeda operatives, but he said the mishap led the militant group to shut down a base in the mountains of Tizi Ouzou province in eastern Algeria.
He said authorities in the first week of January intercepted an urgent communication between the leadership of al Qaeda in the Land of the Maghreb (AQIM) and al Qaeda’s leadership in the tribal region of Pakistan on the border with Afghanistan. The communication suggested that an area sealed to prevent leakage of a biological or chemical substance had been breached, according to the official.
“We don’t know if this is biological or chemical,” the official said.
The story was first reported by the British tabloid the Sun, which said the al Qaeda operatives died after being infected with a strain of bubonic plague, the disease that killed a third of Europe’s population in the 14th century. But the intelligence official dismissed that claim.

The terrorists planned to wreak havoc on Western targets but fell victims to their own weapon, a leading expert on chemical warfare believes.
The Sun revealed yesterday that Black Death, also called the Plague, killed at least 40 fanatics at a terror training camp in Algeria earlier this month.
It was thought they caught the disease through poor living conditions in their forest hideouts.
But Dr Igor Khrupinov, of Georgia University, said: “Al-Qaeda is known to experiment with biological weapons. And this group has direct communication with other cells around the world.
“Contagious diseases, like ebola and anthrax, occur in northern Africa. It makes sense that people are trying to use them against Western governments.”
Dr Khrupinov, once arms adviser to Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev, added: “Instead of using bombs, people with infectious diseases could be walking through cities.”
Black Death has been researched as a biological weapon before.

Instead of spending a trillon dollars on a “stimulus” plan (really just a massive looting of the national treasure) on Democrat Pork… immediately secure the borders, initiate a credible civil defense and rapid national WMD disaster response program and create a single al Qaeda Hunt & Destroy Task Force of at least 50,000 special forces that are not subject to ridiculous rules of engagement designed by civilian attorneys instead of military strategists and eliminate this enemy before they eliminate us.
Forget water boarding, and instead use horrendous torture as this is the only thing that will break these fanatics just as the Bomb was the only way to end WWII. Not politically correct, but obviously required.
The economy will be quickly forgotten once a WMD attack happens and millions of Americans die.
Unfortunately, under the current circumstances such an attack will happen here, sooner rather than later as this report clearly indicates. It’s time the public is made aware just how serious this is. Most Americans have no clue that we are even at war.

This whole story sounds rather weak.. For example:
1. So what is it? Did they get plague from some sort of biological weapons program or “through poor living conditions in their forest hideouts?” Which is it?
2. Re “Dr Khrupinov, once arms adviser to Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev, added: “Instead of using bombs, people with infectious diseases could be walking through cities.”” If this the case why did they stay in their camp and nicely die vs. hopping the bus to the nearest town??

Well said Rob I wish more people would open their eyes. The media needs to be removed from the combat zone as well. This would help out a ton.
This was not a lab to create but a distribution point. These guys were there to infect themselves, then disberse to targets around the world, infecting people all along the way.

Although the numbers involved in the Hunt and Destroy task force are a bit on the high side, I believe it is an excellent idea.
Excuse me, but, are you guys out of your minds?

That “civilian attorneys” are the only thing that keeps you safe from government, military, or any other thing thay you can’t protect yourself. In that case, if a seriel killer lives next to you, than your special forces can slaughter all the neighberhood. No biggy, that guy needed to be killed.
Believe it or not, OTHERS have also have a right to exist. And fanatics? Pff… That’s what fanatism is, eliminating every single human right and secure and honest political gain just because of fear.
By the way, the story could be possible, but not credible at all. The only source for the story is the Intelligence Officer.
