FBI Director Warns of Terror Attacks on U.S. Cities

FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III today warned that extremists “with large agendas and little money can use rudimentary weapons” to sow terror, raising the specter that recent attacks in Mumbai that killed 170 people last year could embolden terrorists seeking to attack U.S. cities.
At a speech to the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, Mueller said that the bureau is expanding its focus beyond al-Qaeda and into splinter groups, radicals who try to enter the country through the visa waiver program and “home-grown terrorists.”
“The universe of crime and terrorism stretches out infinitely before us, and we too are working to find what we believe to be out there but cannot always see,” Mueller said.
One particular concern, the FBI director said, springs from the country’s background as a “nation of immigrants.” Federal officials worry about pockets of possible radicals among melting-pot communities in the United States such as Seattle, San Diego, Miami or New York.
A Joint Terrorism Task Force led by the FBI, for instance, continues to investigate a group in Minneapolis after one young man last fall flew to Somalia and became what authorities believe to be the first U.S. citizen to carry out a suicide bombing. As many as a half-dozen other youths from that community in Minnesota have vanished, alarming their parents and raising concerns among law enforcement officials that a dangerous recruiting network has operated under the radar.
“The prospect of young men, indoctrinated and radicalized in their own communities . . . is a perversion of the immigrant story,” Mueller said.

I find it strange that Dearborn, MI was not mentioned in your report. It has the largest population of Muslim’s in the country. If someone wanted to blend in, that would be the place to look for someone with an agenda.
All fine and dandy, but WHEN ARE WE CLOSING OUR BORDERS to illegal immigrants? Taking action against “splinter groups” with open borders is like trying to kill fire ants in a trail and leaving their mound alone! Close the borders first then, take out the splinter groups so they cannot reorganize.
I agree with you 2 I lived outside of Det for many years.and know all about derborn.it seems to be left out of alot of storys unless it is a case ware the musslimes are protesting something.I would like to know how many of them that are in our country have real green cards? they own and work in all the stores yet there wives and children are seen at the food stamp offices. they do not have to pay tax’s yet they own rental property’s this needs to stop .our government needs to sweep threw all citys from A-Z and send all the non card holders back to there home countrys.we can not fix our countrys cash problems with out tax money we are giving out more then we are recieveing! and I do not mean just musslimes I am talking about any and all non card holders that are leaching off of the American people.we need to clean house lock down all our boarders and all work at getting our country back on it’s feet befor we become a nataion totaly owned by another.
Minneapolis has had problems with Somali men leaving to go fight in the Somalian Civil War and the FBI can’t find them anywhere. If they can get out then they can get in.
I’m with GLRP007. When are we going to clamp down really hard on illegal immigration? I say kill a few of them and that will send a message that they had better not infiltrate our boarders. We had no qualms about dealing with the Barbary Coast pirates and we should have no qualms about this problem. I think gangs and their ilk deserve no quarter. Look what they are doing to Mexico. We’ll be fighting down there next…
So, here is my moderating comment. We should deal with illegal immigrants in a more strenuous way. I agree with GLRP007. Is this nice enough?
Stop the Bleeding Hearts Now! Close the boarders and send them packing. Change the Constitution so that you must be born to an American to automatically be an American. Stop funding the anchor babies and their parents will leave.
Connect the dots America because its already too late. Obamination your president will tax the rich, as we the tax payer bail out the American auto industry? Is everyone getting this? We will be socialized as Nazi Germany was with all of our rights written off by the likes of Pelosi,Edmunds and others in the Obamination camp.
It will start with 2nd amendment rights,you don’t need because the Government will protect you, just like the 911 tragedy and our boarders,and home invasions and car jackings, muggings, gang and drug related shooting of innocent and greasy citizens all over this great country. Muslim clerics spoke of a time when the White house would be black.
That was metaphoric to some but to others it was prophetic because with an American President sympathetic to the cause, radical Islam, Hammas and other groups including a “close to weapons grade plutonium Iran”,will strike when there is enough diversion, like financial chaos,drug wars inside the US and the screwing of the american taxpayer to foot the bill for illegal aliens,welfare families and prisons full of violent scum bags and in many cases innocent people incarcerated by a broken legal system!
With Muslim populations growing in the prisons who do you think will be the next leader to organize attacks from his cell block all over the US? Think it can’t be done? Think again, your president and the demoncrats are skull sucking the deaf dumb blind voter.The rich create wealth and along with that , jobs,business and opportunity for many. Let us add to the fact that Obamination was the presiding attorney for Freddie Mac and Fanny Mae, and his confidant Franklin Raines the CEO walked with 90 million dollars days before the collapse!
