Police: U.S. Teens Were Hit Men For Mexican Cartel

Prosecutors say they quickly discovered these two teenagers were homegrown assassins, hired to carry out the dirty work of the notorious Gulf Cartel.

“There are sleeper cells in the U.S.,” said Detective Garcia. “They’re here, they’re here in the United States.”

The cases against Cardona and Reta — both are in prison serving long prison sentences for murder — shed new light into the workings of the drug cartels.

Prosecutor and investigators say Reta and Cardona were recruited into a group called “Los Zetas,” a group made up of former members of the Mexican special military forces. They’re considered ruthless in how they carry out attacks. “Los Zetas” liked what they saw in Cardona and Reta.

Both teenagers received six-month military-style training on a Mexican ranch. Investigators say Cardona and Reta were paid $500 a week each as a retainer, to sit and wait for the call to kill. Then they were paid up to $50,000 and 2 kilos of cocaine for carrying out a hit.

The teenagers lived in several safe houses around Laredo and drove around town in a $70,000 Mercedes-Benz.

I think we must all realize the situation along our border is far worse than we are led to believe. The longer this administration waits to take a firm stand, and protect our own property and citizens the worse it will become.

I’m just curious what we’re not being told.

  2. Javier says:

What is hardly ever told is that this is all being driven by the United State’s hunger for drugs and its lucrative business of selling assault weapons to the cartels. If you research there is an average of 3 blooming gun shops per mile along the border. The only way the United States will ever do something real about the drug problem will be when the carnage spills over the border. Even then they will probably just start arresting more people left and right filling up more jails, waisting more taxpayer’s dollars without tackling the real problem; the government surely benefits from all this.

I believe that Javier has called it correctly. It isn’t only these problems, but it also has been known for years that the U.S. puts on a tough “face” about drug issues, but they also purchase and supply to keep it moving and to keep the attention of Americans distracted from other national issues.

  4. Armando says:

This is why in the Reagan administration, he tried to cut the head off of this monster in central america. But we had too many bleeding hearts defending what they didnt understand. Now the monster has made it to our border and beyond and now you want something done.

  5. Johann Sproule says:

Clearly we are as a nation not respected and under attack — importation of controlled substances, ill gotten gains at our cost, torture/murder of non and citizens, itimidation, etc. What will it take for us to awaken and realize that is what it is?

I hate to go to an extreme. Yet, we need to increase police forces on the border. Ultimately, put military forces on the border (w/o trampling the constitution). We need to us drones, and destroy those that break the law, especially when it is obvious and we have the goods on them (i.e. shoot at our law enforcement, leave the drugs behind and/or smuggled people, etc.) The Mexican government must surely see that their form of life and government is also under attack; and as such, join us in the fight. If not, then sometimes force the change.

  6. Don says:

Drugs and guns across our borders are criminal offences. People illegally crossing our borders is just a misdemeanor. When our nation is under assault from terrorists and drug lords, doesn’t it make sense to make these people immigration issues criminal offenses? Hello Congress – there is a war going on out there. We are like a bulldog with rubber teeth. Duh
