Hundreds of New York police and firefighters will conduct an emergency drill on Sunday at the World Trade Center rail station, according to city officials’ announcement.

The “major, multi-agency emergency response drill” will require closing for five-and-a-half hours the PATH Station at the World Trade Center, which links southern Manhattan and the New Jersey town of Newark.

Several streets in the neighborhood of lower Manhattan — the location of Ground Zero in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks — will be closed to pedestrians and others will be barred to drivers.

Emergency vehicles will arrive in the area “with lights and sirens as they would in an actual emergency,” the statement from the Port Authority and transport authorities said.

“The drill will begin at 8 am (0400 GMT) and involve hundreds of emergency responders…. The drill will last for approximately two hours.”
