Pesticides found inside an 18-wheeler that was being searched near the State Police Troop B office in Kenner sent 17 officers and a drug search dog to the hospital, most with symptoms of nausea.

Officials said not all of those who went to East Jefferson’s emergency room were directly exposed to the pesticides, which were found inside the truck along with several cartons of lime and some cocaine.

“The pesticides were comingled with the limes,” State Police Troop B spokesman Louis Calato said. “In the limes we found cocaine and we also found some pesticides.”

So far authorities have found 23 kilos of cocaine, with a street value of $23,000 to $25,000 per kilo.

Booked into the St. John the Baptist Parish Jail were Francisco Aparaicio, 45, and David Aparaicio, 47, the driver of the truck. Both men are from Texas and are brothers.

Both men will be charged with intent to distribute the cocaine, said Calato.

The name of the company on the side of the truck, CG Transport, is based out of Elsa, Texas

Mexico’s navy has seized more than a ton of cocaine stuffed inside frozen sharks, as drug gangs under military pressure go to greater lengths to conceal narcotics bound for the United States.

Armed and masked navy officers cut open more than 20 shark carcasses filled with slabs of cocaine after checking a container ship in a container port in the southern Mexico state of Yucatan, the navy and Mexican media said Tuesday.

“We are talking about more than a ton of cocaine that was inside the ship,” Navy Cmdr. Eduardo Villa told reporters after X-ray machines and sniffer dogs helped uncover the drugs.
