Man Stabs Himself To Death At Myrtle Beach Airport

Police in Horry County say one man is dead following a stabbing at the Myrtle Beach International Airport late Friday morning.Sgt. Robert Kegler, spokesman for the Horry County Police Department, said authorities were alerted of an unauthorized person on the airfield at the Myrtle Beach International Airport at 10:45 a.m.Police were dispatched to the airport after a maintenance worker found the unidentified man in a restricted section of the airport.

As authorities responded to the scene, that’s when Kegler said the man began stabbing himself.” In the process, the man pulled out a knife and began to stab himself repeatedly,” said Kegler. “As a result of that stabbing, the male suspect has now been pronounced dead at Grand Strand Hospital. “The 49-year-old was transported to the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center and died of his injuries at 11:05 a.m.Airport officials say the man was not a passenger on a flight and have not commented on any association with Myrtle Beach International.

Video of Taliban Commander Leaves Fate Uncertain

A new video of the militant chief of the Pakistani Taliban is making the rounds but  fails to prove he survived a U.S. missile strike earlier this year.

U.S. and Pakistani officials have become increasingly confident that the militant commander was killed in mid-January, but the Pakistani Taliban have refused to concede Hakimullah Mehsud’s death.

Hamas Leader Was Drugged And Suffocated To Death

The Hamas commander who was killed in his Dubai hotel room was drugged and then suffocated, police have said.

It is believe a sedative was used to relax the victim’s muscles to make his death look more natural.

Major General Khamis Mattar al-Mazeina, deputy commander of Dubai police said in a statement: “The killers used the drug succinylcholine to sedate Mahmoud al Mabhouh before they suffocated him.”

He added: “There were no signs of resistance shown by the victim.”

Death Toll at 95 in Pakistan Volleyball Bombing

Police say a suicide bomber drove onto crowded volleyball field in North-West Frontier Province town of Lakki Marwat and detonated an explosive-laden vehicle, killing at least 95 and wounding over 100 others.

More bodies are being pulled from the rubble of a sports complex in northwestern Pakistan, raising the death toll in Friday's attack on a volleyball game to at least 95.

Survivors prepared for funerals Saturday, while officials warn the number of victims is likely to increase as recovery efforts moved through their second day.

Police say the suicide bomber drove onto a crowded field in the North-West Frontier Province town of Lakki Marwat Friday and detonated his explosive-laden vehicle while hundreds of spectators watched the match, including women and children.

The blast caused nearby homes to collapse and damaged a nearby mosque where tribal elders were meeting.

Police say that meeting may have been the attacker's intended target.

Some officials have raised concerns about meager medical facilities in Lakki Marwat. Doctors from surrounding areas have come to the town to help treat the more than 100 wounded.

Suicide Bomber Type Vest Found In Mt. Washington – Pittsburgh

Workers cleaning out a house in Mt. Washington called police when they found a device with what looked like pipe bombs with wires and nails attached.

“It looked exactly like somebody would wear in a suicide bomber-type of scene or suicide bomber- type of incident,” said Sheldon Williams, of the Pittsburgh police bomb squad.

The device was found outside 559 Southern Avenue late Thursday morning while workers from Pittsburgh Iron and Scrap Metal were picking up scrap metal. While loading materials into their truck, they noticed a device and called authorities.

The bomb squad arrived and, using the squad’s robot, police were able to get a closer look at the device.

“It had a vest,” he said. “The pipe bombs were in a series, meaning they were all linked together.”

“There was a wire coming out of it with a plunger on the end of it,” Williams said.

The bomb squad detonated one of the pipe bombs at the scene. The other three pipe bombs in the vest could not be opened and were taken to a private destination for further testing and detonation.

“It could totally be a hoax device,” said Williams. “But we would not make that determination upon arrival.”

Part of the investigation will include locating the previous tenants that neighbors said kept to themselves.

Aspen – Bombs Wrapped Like Christmas Gifts Delivered To Banks – Suspect Found Dead

A man delivered bombs wrapped as Christmas presents to two banks Wednesday along with notes threatening “mass death” if they did not turn over tens of thousands of dollars, Aspen police said Thursday.

Authorities were quickly alerted, and the man apparently halted his plan — leaving two bombs in an alley that were likely intended for other banks, police said.

The man, identified as James Blanning, 72, who had had previous contacts with law enforcement, was later found dead after apparently shooting himself, police said.

His body was found in his car in a rural area east of Aspen.

The incidents Wednesday sparked the evacuation of a 16-block area of Aspen on New Year’s Eve, one of the busiest days of the year for businesses in Aspen.

Bomb squads ultimately detonated the devices, and no one was injured.

Evacuation orders were lifted early Thursday.
