Thursday, December 2nd, 2010This is one we’ll continue to monitor update. Police on Wayne State University’s campus are investigating a potential threat to the university.
Wayne State University police received a tip regarding the threat to the university on Saturday, November 27. The threat was anonymous, and posted online by a WSU student. It described the student’s plan to commit violent acts on WSU’s campus on Wednesday.
Police and the FBI have identified the student and executed a search warrant at the student’s Dearborn home early Monday morning. No weapons were found, but police say they did confiscate some property related to the threat.

ASU to Create Institute to Find Terrorism Solutions
Sunday, November 7th, 2010Arizona State University is planning to create an institute that aims to find solutions to national defense, homeland security, counterterrorism and cyber warfare challenges.
The institute is still un-named, but it will be headed by the chief scientist for the U.S. Air Force for the past two years.
It’s part of ASU President Michael Crow’s new American University Initiative, which encourages university departments to work together to address societal ills.

NC National Model for Bioterrorism Warning System
Monday, June 21st, 2010North Carolina will be the national model for a new system to detect the earliest signs of an impending bioterrorism attack and provide warnings in time to minimize damage to human and animal life as well as the environment.
The model, called North Carolina Bio-Preparedness Collaborative (NCB-Prepared), will alert health officials and practitioners within hours of symptom outbreaks that might indicate a bioterrorist attack, threat of disease, food-borne illness or other threats to public health and safety.

Radical Group Promotes Chicago Conference Online
Saturday, June 19th, 2010The radical Islamist group Hizb ut-Tahrir America HTA will host a conference in Chicago on July 11 to hype the virtues of an Islamic state ruled according to the strictest interpretation of Islamic law. The group launched an online social media campaign to promote the event; one that serves as a prime example of how extremists are able to expose the mainstream to their ideology.
HTA hosted a similar conference outside of Chicago last year, which drew about 500 participants. This year, the campaign to promote the conference is more comprehensive, and the group expects many more participants as a result; it has booked an 11,000-square-foot ballroom at the Chicago Marriott Oak Brook that can accommodate more than one thousand.

UC Irvine Receives Fifth Black Death Envelope
Wednesday, January 6th, 2010A total of five envelopes that contain white powder along with a note reading “black death” have been sent to UC Irvine, as reported by KCAL9. All five envelopes came from the same return address.
A fourth envelope had been found earlier the same day that the fifth was, and was specifically addressed to an associate Dean of Biological Sciences and was delivered to the Natural Sciences II building. The office was shut down whilst exams were performed to check for harmful substances, University Spokesman Tom Vasich said.

Visit By Alleged Homeland Security Investigated
Wednesday, November 11th, 2009WKRC Cincinnati is reporting a un usual incident in which two men, both claiming to be Homeland Security employees, visited a local elementary school early yesterday morning.
Police say one man, who was armed and wearing a Homeland Security badge, entered Mayfield Elementary School yesterday morning, before the start of class.

High Senior Arrested; School Bomb Threat Alleged
Monday, October 26th, 2009Sign On Diego reports that a senior at Ramona High School who told friends and others that he was going to blow up the school with homemade bombs made of C-4 explosive and hand grenades was arrested early Sunday.
Korey Flad, 19, faces charges that include threatening to use a weapon of mass destruction, threatening a school and making criminal threats, the department said.

Coffee Poisoning Struck 6 at Harvard
Sunday, October 25th, 2009The Wall Street Journal reports that six Harvard University Medical School employees who became ill in August after drinking coffee from the same coffee machine were poisoned with sodium azide, a preservative commonly used in laboratories.
The school doesn’t know how the poisoning occurred, according to David Cameron, spokesman for the medical school, and no one has been disciplined.

Explosion Leads To Evacuation of Islamic School in Syracuse
Saturday, October 10th, 2009No word yet on the actual cause but authorities say initial reports are that a boiler exploded and it appears to be an accident. Additional details are expected to be released on Monday.

Monday, January 12th, 2009An animal rights group has claimed that it has sent letter bombs to two University of California, Davis researchers, the school said.
The UC Davis Police Department, Davis Police Department and other agencies are investigating the claim, and no suspicious packages have yet been detected.

UPDATE: Four Charged In Houston School Bus Thefts
Thursday, December 20th, 2007The arrest of four men in connection with the case of several missing Houston school buses will calm the fears of many. There was growing concern that the stolen buses may have be part of a build-up to a potential terror attack.
The principal of a local charter school said she wasn’t alarmed in late August after noticing that two school buses weren’t waiting in the usual parking spots.
2 Ph.D Students Killed on Louisiana State University Campus
Friday, December 14th, 2007Two students were found shot to death inside an apartment at Louisiana State University, and authorities said Friday the men were likely slain during a home invasion.
The victims, Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma and Kiran Kumar Allam, both international Ph.D. students at LSU, were found inside an apartment at the Edward Gay complex, police said. They were discovered after a call to campus police around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night seeking medical attention.
No suspects had been identified.
