Cops detain 2 men, investigate suspicious car in Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Police here say two men have been detained while officers, including the state’s bomb squad, continue to investigate a car with Massachusetts plates on Elmwood Ave.

Supt. Bryan DalPorto of the Niagara Falls, N.Y., police said the two men are not Russian nationals, contrary to an early report, but he wouldn’t comment further on the suspects.

Bomb squad ‘disrupts’ suspicious materials at MIT

The Cambridge police bomb squad has twice used a water cannon today to “disrupt” some “suspicious materials’’ found in the common area inside the New House, an MIT dormitory on Memorial Drive, officials said.

The Cambridge bomb squad remains on the scene and have been joined by special agents from the FBI and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearm and Explosives, officials said.

Cab driver arrested after bomb squad removes suspicious materials from home near D/FW Airport

A cab driver from Irving was arrested Sunday after a bomb squad removed suspicious materials from his apartment.

Irving firefighters found the materials after extinguishing a small fire at the mans home near Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. The FBI and the Joint Terrorism Task Force assisted in the investigation.

Explosive found on Texas road near Mexico border

Federal agents are investigating an improvised explosive device found on a Texas highway near the Mexico border.

Brownsville Police spokesman Eddie Garcia says a passing motorist alerted authorities about 5 p.m. Sunday to a grenade modified and left on an overpass along southbound U.S. 77. A bomb squad shut down traffic for three hours to disarm it.

Airport Director Susan Walsh told 13WHAM News around 6 a.m. a man approached a ticket counter and told an employee he had a bomb in his bag. The ticket agent called authorities with the threat.

Delta Airlines Flight Searched After Landing At Mumbai

Airlines Flight from Amsterdam to Mumbai has had its passengers evacuated and the plane thoroughly searched after touching down at the Chathrapathi Sivaji airport in India’s commercial capital Mumbai, reports said on Thursday.

The aircraft’s pilot was informed by a Delta Airlines staff that he had seen an unidentified object in its cargo bay. Following this, an alert was raised and flight 70 was towed to a secure area after landing at 11.00 pm local time.

However, a comprehensive search carried out jointly by airport officials and bomb squads failed to yield anything dangerous.

Suspicious Package Found at Nuke Plant Near Phoenix

Authorities are investigating a suspicious package that was found early Wednesday at a nuclear power plant west of Phoenix.Maricopa County Sheriff’s spokesman Brian Lee says security officers at the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station called them at about 5 a.m. after they found the suspicious package.

A second call initially led to confusion that a second device may have been found, but that was quickly discounted.Lee says a sheriff’s bomb squad is investigating.

Taliban fighters are burying dirty needles with their bombs in a bid to infect British troops with HIV, The Sun reported Wednesday.

Hypodermic syringes are reportedly hidden below the surface of explosive devices, pointing upwards to prick bomb squad experts as they hunt for devices.

The needles are feared to be contaminated with hepatitis and HIV. And if the bomb goes off, the needles become deadly flying shrapnel.

The tactic, used in the Afghan badlands of Helmand, was exposed by British ex-Army officer Patrick Mercer.

Explosives Wash Up On In Barrels On Israeli Beaches

Two barrels filled with explosives washed up on beaches in Israel on Monday, according to Israeli authorities.

Authorities disposed of both without injury.

Islamic Jihad, the Fatah Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade and the Nasser Salah al-Din Brigades issued a leaflet in Gaza claiming responsibility for sending three explosive devices to Ashkelon and Ashdod.

A large barrel filled with explosives was found on a beach in the Ashkelon area Monday morning. The beach was closed.

Policemen and bomb disposal experts neutralized the explosives, according to police spokesman Miki Rosenfeld.

A second barrel filled with explosives was discovered later in the day on the shore of the city of Ashdod.

Authorities conducted a controlled explosion on the second barrel. Police were combing the beaches, and nearby areas were closed to the public. Authorities have not discussed a third device.

Suspicious Packages on Linfield Campus Cleared

Details are sketching on an early morning “suspicious package” scare that shut down parts of the Linfield College campus.

The morning after a football victory that will send its team to the NCAA semi-finals, Linfield College was on lock-down as the Oregon State Police’s Bomb Squad swooped in to clear at least five “suspicious packages” scattered around campus.

Grenade Prompts Evacuation of Arizona Restaurant

AZCentral reports that a Wickenburg Arizona McDonald’s reopened without incident after DPS officers pulled over a vehicle into the restaurant parking lot and discovered the driver with a hand grenade.

The incident started at 7:49 a.m. and the area was cleared and safe for the public about 2 hours later.

Harold Sanders, a spokesman for DPS, said a bomb squad removed the grenade from the area. After the grenade was discovered, within 10 minutes officers had evacuated the McDonald’s.

The restaurant is near U.S. 60 and officers had to close traffic in the right lane.

The driver was detained and is being questioned.

Ferry-Fillmore District detectives are investigating the gunpoint holdup of a FedEx driver making deliveries on Bissell Avenue at about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday. Police said the driver was accosted in the truck by two men—one with a handgun who held him at bay as his accomplice took a package addressed to a Schauf Avenue house that was vacant.

Tucson Police Detonate Suspicious Device At I-10 Underpass

Tucson Police blew up a suspicious device just before noon Friday on Grant Road at Interstate Ten.

A bicyclist reported seeing something on the underpass sidewalk wrapped in duct tape with wires sticking out of it.

Investigators believe it was a real explosive device.

Police closed off Grant Road at I-10 and the northbound frontage road bomb while teams disposed of the device.
